As the Twins attempt to pick up the pieces after one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history, they will be doing so with an import catcher.

Minnesota has won the bidding war for former Astros backstop Jason Castro, sources confirm to FanRag Sports. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports was the first to report the signing, with the sides agreeing on a three-year deal worth more than $24 million.

Despite Castro’s struggles at the plate over the past few years, the longtime Houston backstop generated significant interest among teams in need of a catcher. The Angels, Braves, Rays and Astros were involved in the bidding, joining the Twins, who made just one of the multiple three-year offers to the 29-year-old free agent. It appears Minnesota’s offer was the best since the franchise doesn’t exactly have many other advantages going for it at this time.
