DC coming in at 224 is a good sign. Roy Nelson at 250? Pretty good as well.

Re: UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III [TONIGHT!!]

Facebook/YouTube prelims start at six. Should be a packed house in Houston. The UFC decided to remove their screens and add 1000+ extra seats seeing as how the Toyota Center has a giant four-way HD display over the scoreboard.

Re: UFC 166: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos III [TONIGHT!!]

Velasquez vs. dos Santos was pretty close to their last fight. Velasquez's pressure is insane. JDS once again comes out of the fight looking like someone beat him with a bat. I was surprised the fight wasn't stopped in the third or subsequently by the cageside doctors. JDS was in horrible shape. JDS is the best heavyweight in the world other than Cain. Feels like the situation we're in with Pettis/Henderson and Weidman/Silva. The ending was bizarre--did JDS land directly on his bad eye? Seemed like he just was at 0% and his body told him to stop.

Not much to say about Cormier vs. Nelson. Cormier is an elite fighter who doesn't seem to be the best at anything in particular. His quest to fight Jon Jones will be an interesting one but his massive reach and height disadvantage could be his undoing. He has good boxing and his wrestling is good but is it enough? Looking forward to finding out. Nelson is a tough SOB but he will never fight for the title. He's one of the guys on the UFC roster who is always going to be hanging around the top-10 but just doesn't have what it takes to beat the truly elite fighters in the division. Hell of a lot of fun to watch, though.

Melendez/Sanchez was awesome. Melendez was handling him and made the conscious decision to stand-and-Wang. Balls. Even after he got caught with a big shot and went down he continued to go shot-for-shot with Sanchez. I hope the way Sanchez talked after the fight was the result of having a cut up mouth and maybe a busted jaw and not the result of him being punch drunk. Two slimy lizards is going to be etched into the memory of MMA fans forever. Melendez could fight for the title next but I wouldn't be shocked to see him put up against a guy like Nurmagomedov in an eliminator first. TJ Grant hanging around complicates the division. I don't know what's next for Sanchez but everyone will be looking forward to it. Seemed fine at lightweight again tonight.
