This is as close to a hometown card as the UFC gets stateside.

I like Gastelum's chances against Weidman. Where do Wiedman go with another L?

DC looks bad in this interview. He looks tired and just generally like his camp has been hard. I could be wrong obviously.

Only saw the main card tonight.

Rivera/Almeida was excellent. Just a great fight. Both guys very high level. Rivera is on the doorstep of a title shot. Almeida needs to drop down in competition and work his way back up like many before him but still has a tremendous amount of potential. Will be happy to see both guys fight again soon.

Cummins/Villante was obviously a very grueling fight and I guess opinions will be split between whether it was hard fought enough to be fun or if it was too much of a slog. I'm leaning towards it being a bit dull with both fighters showing little inspiration, especially compared to the fight that preceded it.

Elkins/Bermudez was not the fight the UFC was hoping to book. Elkins rendered a lot of what Bermudez was attempting null. It was an example of a savvy fighter against a straightforward one. Bermudez is cut from the same cloth as a guy like Diego Sanchez (in multiple ways). He needs very strong coaching, I think, to reach his potential. As an action fighter he is endlessly entertaining but in a fight against a technician he's exposed.

The main event was a good reminder that Chris Weidman is world class (when he stays on message). I think he lost focus in his last few fights but maybe he needed that adversity to come back on point. Despite getting hurt by a few of Gastelum's left hands, he's not unique in that regard, he stuck to his gameplan and got a finish for his efforts. I thought the commentary was a bit ridiculous with Stann and Anik praising Gastelum for being out-wrestled in some convoluted plan to tire out Weidman. Weidman's not Romero he can do that for days. Weidman is a bit entitled thinking that this win gets him a title shot but with Whittaker out of action and Rockhold apparently set to face Branch, he's got a narrow window of opportunity so he might as well try for it.

Good night of fights but this event was ultimately to promote the one next weekend which is looking like a huge show already.

Glad weidman got the win. He would have destroyed dudes in Bellator. His chin seems shot though. Had the right gameplan in the fight with wrestling, grappling, bjj.

Wonder who he fights next. Middleweight is deeeeeeeeppp.

Esther Lin is incredible. Amazing to think she might've still been banned had the UFC not reversed their Helwani decision.

God I don't know man. I would enjoy watching Weidman vs. Bisping, but I don't want to hear the months of bitching that would entail from the other fighters and fans.

I really liked Weidman's game plan tonight. He fought very very smart. I agree with speeds that in his last few fights I think he got away from his game and tried to be a flashy hands fighter. His strength is his wrestling and his BJJ. In fact, one of the commentary trio made comment tonight that Weidman had decent BJJ. Uhm...from my recollection, he's really fucking good on the ground...not just decent.

I think Chris can still dominate the division if he continues to utilize his wrestling and BJJ. He's decent with his hands, but his bread and butter is his wrestling.
