I'm sure not a fan of Rothko ..that painting behind him in the article....I never got the house painter wall samples that Rothko called art.
As opposed to being in a dark warehouse with temperature and humidity controls? Let the galleries buy it!
Soon our team will be liquidated... let's just hope it's to the right buyer who is committed to winning a championship in Portland.
Hey, that’s a guy who grew up in Portland that you’re dissing. It’s only natural that the Blazers’ owner should have had some of his work. Have you ever seen his paintings in a gallery? I saw some in Boston. It’s a totally different experience than seeing a picture of them. Their size and the subtle intricacies of the paint surface are amazing. The feelings they elicit as you look at them are what Rothko’s work was about. Abstract expressionism and color field painting aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but don’t sell them short until you’ve experienced them. This is a pretty good article about Rothko and his work:
I've seen them at the Nelson Rockefeller art gallery in Kansas City on display and I love art....Rothko sucks...sorry. I got nothing from that work at all so I'm being brutally honest when I think it's bad work. My wife is an award winning abstract artist...I love abstract art but Rothko...don't care where he's from. I would donate his painting to goodwill if someone gave me one. sorry...it's definitely not something I want to live around on my walls. I understand that art is a personal thing and if you like the work, that's fine...but I really don't.
To each their own. That said, Rothko's works go for $50 - $90M. Maybe that was the only attraction Paul Allen had to them.
