North Carolina Tar Heels sophomore tailback Giovani Bernard, the nation's top punt returner, will forgo his final two years of college eligibility and enter the 2013 NFL Draft, the school announced on Friday.

Bernard, who led the nation with 16.44 yards per punt return, is draft-eligible because he has been out of high school for three years. He redshirted in 2010 and has been a first-team all-conference selection each of the past two years.

Bernard, ranked No. 11 in the country in rushing yards per game (122.8), is ranked No. 1 at his position by ESPN.com and No. 52 overall.
