I didn't see another thread like this, so I think this could be useful. For me personally, it's for selfish promo reasons to advertise my shows.. of which SWIL is getting back into the saddle after having been hunkered down working on some things. We will be playing at the Rock Hard PDX on Saturday July 28th. We will be closing out a three band night. I will have more details and a flyer image I will post up in a few weeks. If you are not sure, we are a loud guitar rock band that likes to have fun and drink beer. We have a pretty diverse sound, combining some punk rock with guitar rock and synth pop rock, as well as multiple voices. Check my signature for a link to our music, though we have not yet updated, so most things are old, including the recordings. Consider yourselves special. This is the first public notice even before FB, the social media whoreface of this planet. Feel free to list anything and everything concert event related, but please keep it to non sports. Comedy/Music I'm thinking. And absolutely no scheduled rioting events here. That idiotic shit deserves it's own thread anyhow.
Going to chris brown with the wife next week. Week after going to see Luke Combs at Duke's. Then seeing Incubus and Jimmy Eat World in August. Used to go to Midnight Round-up a bunch in Gresham before they demolished the building and put in a killer burger and mod pizza. A band played there a couple times. A cover band that we all enjoyed. Is all your stuff original or do you do any covers? Oh, and went to Tom Green this last weekend at helium. He was awesome. Not music, but you included comedy . Love going to Helium.
Mostly original. Currently our set has two covers, but we dont play them original. We teak them, or Swilize them. We play a cover of Dear Prudence from The Beatles and we play Nirvana's cover of the Vaseline's song, Son O' Gun Isn't Dukes a brawlers bar?
Not sure I fit any of the choices. You know what to expect from a well known band/concert. And pay for the privilege. But you have heard it all before, just not live. The big concert experience becomes more about the energy from the people at the concert than the music. Some of the best times were surprises. Wondering into a place with a startup band often results in a real treat. No matter what kind of music they play. Maybe it is being so close to the musicians playing their hearts out. And often they play new to me music. Often they stop by the table to chat during their breaks, which adds a personal touch that you do not get from well known bands. Not sure why, but I enjoy the surprise affect of a live startup band more than the planned concert experience.
How the hell is that possible? Lol Not the pay but the 500 bands a day? one and a half bands a day every day? What do you do? Right. I know. lol, and its known for brawls, no?
I work in concert and festival production management. Shit one festival weekend I see like 30. Adds up quick yo.
Check out the Tommy Castro band (Phenomenal Bluesman). Last great concert I attended was Joe Walsh and Bad Company. Premier show. Always think of SRV
No idea. I used to frequent Duke's a lot about 5 years ago because my first house was off division. Never saw any fights break out back then. Just a bunch of young adults getting wasted having a good time.
Actually there are a couple. I will ask my friend who goes often to one of them tonight and let you know. Nice. We should talk. We are about to finish up our press kit to send out for larger events for the fall and next year. Can I PM you and harass you and maybe spam you with a couple links to our stuff? lol Yeah, Im in between Stark and Division one block from David Douglass. Never been to Dukes, but 10 years ago, used to see the cops there often and had a friend who loves country and said he gets into alot of fights there. Maybe things have been cleaned up a bit.
I go to see live music very rarely these days but have seen some legends in Eugene when they've passed through town...Bruce Cockburn, Steve Earl, Earth Wind and Fire with Chicago...Paquito D'Rivera....took my wife to see Heart..her favorite band...saw Jackson Browne and Willie Nelson...love the Cuthbert for live music.....my son took me to see Steel Pulse there...I used to love to go to Joe Fedricos until it closed and see Mike Denny or Jessie Marquez play...sometimes go to a Thursday night jazz show put on by students at the U of O....saw the Lincoln Center allstars perform....Herbie Hancock perform...and I love to go to the Symphony at the Hult Center or see some unknown group at the WOW hall. This fall I plan to see ZZ Top and the Doobie Bros at the Cuthbert if I can.
Just rolled into Clarksdale MS. I'm hoping to hit several jukes tonight for some local blues. Being Friday and Stinko De Mayo, I should have no problems......
No No Doug. I deserve my own thread. I don't ask for much. Just an NBA championship, to become master of time and creation, then, and this is a long shot, meet jlprk.
I saw a guy from Clarksdale perform at the Vets lounge in Eugene years ago...harp player named Grady Champion...really good blues band..I bought their CD
