http://mmajunkie.com/2015/05/jeff-b...-trigg-2-to-be-inducted-into-ufc-hall-of-fame The new system kicks off with this year’s four-member class, which will be inducted on July 11 as part of UFC Fan Expo 2015 in Las Vegas. According to the announcement, a member will be inducted in each of the four new categories: Modern era: fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the modern era Pioneers era: fighters who made their pro MMA debut in the pioneers era Contributors: for individuals who made significant contributions outside of active competition Fight wing: commemorating the greatest and most important bouts in the sport’s history The contributor of the year will be former commentator Jeff Blatnick. Hughes vs. Trigg 2, Dana White's favourite fight, also gets in. One modern fighter and one pioneer are yet to be named I guess?
Strong cases to be made for both Rich Franklin and BJ Penn. Franklin isn't retired so Penn seems a likely candidate. For pioneer: Tank Abbott, Marco Ruas, Oleg Taktarov, Evan Tanner... more than a few guys who could be named.
see, you can't have legitimacy if you're going to be a SOB boss and carry a grudge. That's why this idea is flawed as is a lot of other things Dana and the UFC does. It seems like Dana can't decide if he's Vince McMahon and in charge of sports entertainment or wants to follow the major leagues and be simply a legit sports league.
This is why guys like Frank Shamrock will never get in. It is DFW's playpen and he has the ultimate say. Hughes/Trigg 2 getting in before Griffin/Bonnar is proof positive of that.
Anyone take umbrage with Bas in the UFC HOF? He fought twice in the UFC, winning then abandoning the heavyweight title, at the tail-end of his career. Taktarov, Abbott, Ruas, Frye, Goodridge, Mezger, Kerr, Horn, Newton, F. Shamrock, Rizzo, Tanner, and even Vitor Belfort pre-date Rutten's participation in the UFC and arguably overshadow his contributions. I guess I'm not clear whether this is a UFC HOF or a MMA HOF...
