After clinching a World Cup spot against Honduras on Saturday, the US will be hosting Costa Rica tonight in Washington DC.

The big story after qualifying is the fatal car accident that has left Charlie Davies with a broken femur and a lacerated bladder, among other injuries. The US will certainly have number 9 on their minds as they take the field in 22 minutes. A group of local supporters has organized a cheer that will take place in the 9th minute tonight. Davies has brought a lot of personality to the team while creating a strong partnership with Jozy Altidore. That will be missed in a match that is sure to test the leadership of this team provided by coach Bob Bradley, captain Carlos Bocanegra, and Landon Donovan.

Here are the line-ups for tonight:

    USA:
    ----------------Altidore-----------Casey--------------

    Donovan---------------------------------------Holden

    ----------------Feilhaber------Bradley----------------

    Bornstein------Bocanegra---Onyewu---Cherundolo

    -------------------------Howard-----------------------

    Costa Rica:
    ---------------Ruiz----------Saborio---------------

    --------------------Centeno-------------------------

    Sirias-------------------------------------Barrantes

    ---------------------Azofeifa-----------------------

    Montero----Marin--------Marshall--------Herrera

    ---------------------Navas--------------------------

Two changes from Saturday for the US. Altidore takes Davies spot, while Feilhaber enters for Clark.

Here's the bench for tonight: Guzan, Conrad, Torres, Rogers, Cooper, Spector, Clark.

I'd expect to see Torres, Rogers, and Clark tonight. Cooper is a possibility with some lingering questions about whether or not Altidore can go 90.

Prematch, seems like a spirited crowd for the US in DC. ESPN talks up the Davies incident a bit and reminds us that he is Altidore's preferred strike partner, and is also his roommate. Close up of Altidore seems like he has a lot on his mind leading up to kick-off and the anthems.

Early attack for the US as Donovan gets a corner after 48 seconds. Straight to the keeper though. Corners should be dangerous all night as Costa Rica isn't very big and isn't likely to compete in the air with the US.

Seems like the US will be looking to hold possession tonight. Costa Rica has a lot to play for tonight and US possession could break up their structure. US isn't having a lot of trouble picking out passes though.

Costa Rica is actually playing a 3-5-2 tonight. Luis Marin, a 5-11 midfielder is in central defense tonight. Service from Holden to Casey and Altidore should be easy pickings tonight.

And as I am typing in the 9th, Jozy Altidore gets a long ball between three Costa Rican defenders and picks out a wide open Connor Casey who floats it well over the goal. Casey returned to his Bruce Arena form. A goal in the ninth would have been incredible alongside the Davies tribute.

Incredible save by Howard as Ceteno volleyed from point blank and Timmy guessed correctly.

Indeed. Yellow for Jozy in the 13th for a late tackle on Rodney Wallace. I'm not too worried, but I would anticipate Jozy being removed early in the second half to avoid a possible red. Yellows don't carry over to South Africa, but a red will.

As of right now, Jozy is the best player on the field right now

Holden with his first service from the right. Casey with a clever little touch to send Holden down the flank and Atlidore has an open diving header go wide to the far side. The Costa Rican defense appears to be in some trouble.

Bryan Ruiz with the goal for Costa Rica in the 21st minute. Ruiz got around Onyewu and Bocanegra was waaaaay too late to get into the picture as Ruiz got in on Howard and slotted it home between Howard's legs. Poor defending there.

I look down for a second and Bryan Ruiz hits his second in the 24th. Brilliant shot by Ruiz off a throw-in. Tim Howard, once again, yells for his defense to step up. US needs to get back to some possession and passing. They should be looking for Holden to set up the big forwards to get one back.

US with a lot of strong possession since the second goal. Altidore splits two defenders and sets up a very dangerous free kick for Donovan in the 28th. Lots of US attackers had a shot at it, but it goes through to Navas with a punch.

Holden gets the clearance and earns a corner. Corner was poorly taken and goes short to set up a quick counter for Los Ticos, which fizzles out quickly.

Jozy earns another free kick in the 31st. Altidore looks like he's really taken to the holding role and has been playing it well tonight.

Donovan and Holden over the free kick just to the left of the D. Donovan sends it well over the goal and the boos come out. I'm guessing those were the Costa Ricans who have assembled.

US doesn't seem too shaken by the two goals, but need to find chances at goal and not just possession.
