Unfortunately, they didn't like what they saw on Thursday. The 6-11, 230-pound Varejao scored 15 points but had to leave the game against the United States after getting elbowed in the right shoulder while battling for a rebound in the fourth quarter of the Americans' 96-94 victory. He immediately grabbed his right shoulder and left the court grimacing in pain.

"He's coming home tomorrow for tests," Ferry said of Varejao in an e-mail Thursday night. </div>

Varejao will return to Brazil this week to recieve tests on his injured shoulder.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sports Illustrated - Cleveland Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao will return to his native Brazil next week for medical tests on a right shoulder injury sustained in a World Championship qualifying game.

Varejao dislocated his shoulder in the final minutes of Brazil's 96-94 loss to the United States on Thursday. He said Friday that he would return to Brazil on Monday and then go to Cleveland a week later to see team doctors and get treatment.

"It hurt a lot when my shoulder came out, but it's part of the game," said Varejao, who was dressed in street clothes Friday to watch Brazil play against Panama.

The 22-year-old said he wasn't sure if he had damaged ligaments or if he would need surgery.</div>

    surgery

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao likely will need surgery to repair his dislocated right shoulder, which would mean he would miss training camp and the beginning of the 2005-06 NBA season. Varejao was expected to return to Cleveland from his home in Brazil on Thursday night and be examined at the Cleveland Clinic this morning, with the expectation that surgery would follow, a Cavs spokesman confirmed Thursday."
