    Vieira set for January return</p>

LA PLAGNE, France (AFP) - Injured France skipper Patrick Vieira believes he will be back in action for Italian champions Inter Milan as soon as mid-January.

The 31-year-old former Arsenal midfielder, who is nursing a calf injury, said Monday: "I am starting from scratch, it's like pre-season preparation.

"If everything goes well I will start playing again for Inter around mid-January.

"We have to go to Dubai for ten days and then I will be back to competitive football."

Vieira, who struggled with a thigh problem prior to his calf injury, has not played since his club's Champions League win over CSKA Moscow in October.

"The wait has been long and difficult because of recurring injuries.

"I would have prefered to be injured and know the exact duration of my unavailability. There is nothing worse than to suffer recurring injuries and just wait each time.

"It is the first time this has happened to me.

"You just have to take it on the chin and be patient with it and tell yourself that it is going to end well and you will be on form for the 2008 European championships."</div></p>
