Vieri Set To Join Atalanta Despite Fan Protests

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>It seems that fan protests against a potential new signing are not quite enough to make clubs change their minds. Juventus seem on the verge of signing Dejan Stankovic from Inter despite the fans' strong dislike for the player, and a similar situation is going on at Atalanta with veteran striker Christian Vieri.

The former Inter and Italian international star has been on a steady decline since leaving Inter for AC Milan in 2005, so it's understandable the fans are not too keen on seeing the almost 35-year-old rejoin their club. In fact, like Juve's fans, they have made their disapproval of Vieri known by launching organised protests.

But according to transfer manager Carlo Osti, "there is a technical project which sees Vieri be a part of Atalanta next season. My job is to build a team that can remain in Serie A."

Vieri played for the Orobici both in the 1995/96 season, when he was discovered and earned a transfer to Juventus, and in the 2006/07 season. Last season he was with Fiorentina, where he scored 6 Serie A goals.</div>
