Now that time has passed how does the Batum for Vonleh trade look?

Considering that we desperately need a better small forward and we have a ton of power forwards on the team which one would you rather have on this year's team?

The question is Nic from when? At this point it is pretty easy call, Vonleh.

Just this year? Batum. Although remember he just started playing because he was injured.

Going forward? Vonleh. Batum isn't worth his contact (not that many players are).

Just a reminder but this trade has long been considered Olshey's worst as GM of the Blazers.

    How about Barton for Afflalo?

That was a better trade at the time but much worse in hindsight imo.

    Barton wasn't a starter.

this, Batum is soon to be 29 yo, Vonleh is 22 yo and has some upside, so Id take him
but if Batum is couple years younger, Id take him over Vonleh, cause we need upgrade at SF position

Barton would have started if he'd been a Blazer when Wes goes down though. Saying AA was a starter is kind of disingenuous because he wasn't supposed to start any more than Barton was.

All that said it was the right trade at the time. Injuries suck.

I'd prefer to have them both.

Batum's been driven like a rental car for 10 years. No way I want those kind of miles on this team at that price.

I voted for Nic simply based on this year's needs. Assuming that he could perform at the level he has the last couple of years, he'd be a big boost to this squad. Vonleh is the obvious choice long term, except that we have a ton of other guys to play the 4 and I'm not sure that Noah is THAT much better than his competition. Aminu, Biggie, Zach, Meyers? That's plenty of options at the 4. Given the Blazers cap situation, I'm not even sure that NO will re-sign Vonleh this summer if he also plans to re-sign Nurkic. We need help at 3, and Batum would fill the bill for at least a couple of years.

Batum easily. Biggie, Zach, and Aminu can play power forward.

Salary notwithstanding, it's Batum right now. He's a better player still and he would mean less time for Heartless.

But I'd still be more excited by the prospect of resigning Vonleh and watching him develop some more. He's improved quite a bit over the course of 2017.

Exactly. It was still a shit trade at the time. But continued injuries to Nic have made current Vonleh more appealing than current Nic. Healthy Nic would make this team much better though.

I was fine with the trade because I didn't want to pay Batum 100m. Seeing as we spent that money on ET i'd rather have Batum back.

Oh dang, I didn't realize he was back already!

Regarding cost, I'd MUCH rather pay Nic $5M more than Turner. We'd be SO MUCH better if we could swap Turner for Nic. Contractually (and setting health aside) Nic is only overpaid by a few million, whereas Turner is overpaid by $10M.

    Batum.

I think better questions would be Vonleh or Swanigan? Vonleh or Davis?

I probably take Vonleh both times.

The right deal to do at the time (imo) which is all you can go off of. Just unfortunately luck with Wes going down. That trade of course didn't work out for us and it would be great to have Barton (and his cheap contract he stupidly signed) so looking back on it makes it bad but the thought process was there to get over the hump.
