So, what’s the theory behind his benching? I personally thought he was playing the best ball of his career. His offensive rating as a starter was 126. We know what he does defensively. We know what he does on the boards. So what happened? I know Collins has taken his spot, and is the better prospect, but initially it wasn’t Zach that replaced Vonleh. Better question might be what happens now. Does he get traded? Do we pay him? Can’t see us just letting him go for nothing.
My guess is that he can't hit a 3/isn't a threat from deep and thus is worthless in Stotts mind. Tho that doesn't explain why Turner continues to gets minutes.
Vonleh shot 35% from outside last year. I remember it was an emphasis for him. He didn’t attempt that many but this year he’s literally attempted 0! The handling of Vonleh has been the oddest thing to me this season.
RFA. Olshey/Allen don't want to have to overpay him this summer, so they've benched him to prevent any teams from wanting to give him an offer.
you have to remember I'm on the fire stotts bandwagon, so I wasn't saying what I felt was a legit reason, just his hairbrained reason. Vonlehs defense was good, and unlike Aminu or Turner, he doesn't try to do something well outside of the scope of his talent level.
So you think they want to keep him? Honest question because I hope you’re right. I’m not against trading him if it helps us elsewhere, but I also don’t want to lose him for nothing.
Our roster is completely imbalanced. It's why we NEED a trade. Whose minutes would you cut to play Noah?
I don’t know, but I also wouldn’t have benched him in the first place. But if I had to pick, probably Davis. Development SZN. Or just move Aminu the fuck away from power forward.
This is the reason I was so frustrated at Stotts last game. I get why he benched Nurk in the 1st half but why the hell would you put Meyers in for 6 minutes when you've got Vonleh sitting over there?
Why don't you add a poll for the obvious theories. 1. It means they're not going to trade him, displaying the players they want to trade to increase their value. 2. It means they're going to trade him, conserving him to avoid bad stats or injury. 3. It means they think he sucks.
Napier made it so Terry couldn't keep Bazz off the floor. Just one month ago, Terry had two straight DNP-CDs. But you think Terry would do that again after Napier's December/Jan? Noah just needs to do the best he can in the time he gets. He got undeserved minutes the past two years, it's catching up to him now. Honestly, he's not that good.
He was the Collins of yesteryear, but didn't develop and become flashy. In the Stotts system, you are flashy or sit.
You may not have noticed the dark green font; I'm being semi-sarcastic. I'm not sure if they want to keep him, but I think that they don't see him as a long-term starter, and don't want to pay him like one. If they can retain him for a reasonable salary, then he can conceivably be a tradeable asset down the road. I honestly think it might be a JJ Hickson situation, where he thinks he's a starter-level player, but nobody else does.
I agree Vonleh looked good early in the season. It seemed like he was taking and making more outside shots too. I'm not sure about the timing of events. Was he benched before or after he hurt his finger? Did he get Wally Pipped when Collins started showing flashes?
Think it has more to do with substance than flash, but noted. I think Collins has showed more in his 28 games off the bench than Vonleh has showed in the 109 games he has started.
No. He was already benched when he hurt his finger. I think he got benched when Aminu came back from his injury.
Noah and Zach are completely different players and would probably work well together out there together. I wouldn't mind seeing it a few times just to see.
