Warner creating leverage with San Fran visit?

After suffering an impasse in negotiations with the Arizona Cardinals, Kurt Warner will make a visit to Northern California on Monday to meet with the San Francisco 49ers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Cardinals' latest offer is believed to be about $9 million short of what Warner is seeking over the course of a two-year contract, and it saddened Warner and his agent, Mark Bartlestein. "[Kurt] He really didn't want to go through free agency. We thought something would be done by now [with Arizona]. It's disappointing."

While the 49ers will certainly entertain the notion of signing Warner, the Chronicle's John Crumpacker notes that San Fran's 2009 offense will be a far cry from the Joe Montana-led powerhouses that dominated the league in 1980's. Coach Mike Singletary intends to focus on developing a run-heavy offense, and the team's top two wide receivers from 2008, Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson, are unlikely to return to the team for 2009. This would certainly be a downgrade from the wide receiver-rich situation Warner enjoyed in Arizona in 2008, with two Pro Bowl wide receivers to throw to.

This would be tight. I want a veteran QB to sign with the Niners to help some of the younger ones.
