Warriors pull of a blockbuster:jamison/ van exel <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Friday, August 15 Trade helps Mavs' front court, Warriors' guard spot -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Unlike most of the other top Western Conference contenders, the Dallas Mavericks failed to make much of a splash when the NBA free-agent period began. But the Mavericks finally became involved in something big Friday night: an eight-player deal with the Golden State Warriors, both The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram are reporting. The key names in the trade: Mavs guard Nick Van Exel and Warriors forward Antawn Jamison. The Mavericks are sending Van Exel, center/forward Evan Eschmeyer, forward Popeye Jones and veteran point guard Avery Johnson to Golden State for Jamison, power forward Danny Fortson, small forward Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch. The trade can't be approved until the NBA offices open on Monday. Van Exel was a key component off the Mavericks' bench last season, and was the team's second-leading scorer in the playoffs with a 19.5 point average. His name has been involved in various trade rumors during the past year, and prior to last season's trade deadline, he mentioned that the Mavericks might need to trade him in order to upgrade their front court. The addition of Jamison, the Warriors' leading scorer who averaged 22.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last season, should help. He will move into the Mavericks' starting lineup at small forward. Fortson should provide help in the rebounding department for the Mavs. He's averaged 11 rebounds three times in his career, but only played 17 games last season due to injury. Adding Van Exel helps the Warriors compensate for the loss of starting point guard Gilbert Arenas, who signed a six-year, $65 million free-agent deal with the Washington Wizards on July 22.</div> <font color="darkgreen">In the future, please don't post full articles. Bad move for them they lose jamison and they gain van exel thats the worst trade this off season this was the lineup last year areneas /vanexel richardson /richardson jamison / Dunlevy fortson / murphy murphy / Dampier who will score 4 them they dont have a big time scorer so they wont even compete in west now like they did last season
Why do you have Fortson in the lineup for last season? He hardly played. The lineup was Arenas/JRich/Jamison/Murph/Dampier. They couldn't re-sign Arenas because they didn't have cap room to match the Wiz contract (funny how they find the cap space AFTER they lose him). Also, well, there's a big thread on this in the off-season forum. There are some good posts as to why it wasn't a bad trade for GS.
Who cares if they lost Fortson? For one he didn't play. Also, they've been trying to get rid of him for the longest time.
I thought this was a terrible trade at first also. We lose our highest scorer, and a potential prospect. But after reading this article, it didn't seem as bad... Huge trade simply a vision Antwan Jamison was a good player and he no off-court problems, but there's no way the trade would have worked without him. I even remember his speech about retiring as a Warrior and trying to turn the franchise around. But so much for that. Now, we have a disgruntled point guard, a good PF, a good SG, but less depth. It won't be as interesting as the Wolves' next season but in the long run we might be able to land some big names.
