So i had this trade going through my head recently: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ojpvdav I know it seems a bit tilted towards Denver at first glance, but hear me out: 1.Denver is in rebuild mode, they want to save money and acquire younger talent. 2.Faried is around Damien,CJ,Davis and Plums age. He is a great rebounder,he runs the floor well and is a good "team guy" so it works well with Neil's plan. 3.Vonleh could be a nice player in about 4 years, that's a bit too late when you look at the older ages of our leading core (which is around 25). 4.Mayers: iv'e written about this before - if he'll have a 'good' season then we'll have to pay him Faried's salary or more in this crazy "everybody gets a max contract" market. 5.Hendo will probably get a starting gig for more money on a different team when his contract runs out. What do you think?
Terrible is what I think. Faried duplicates Plumlee and Davis's skill set. You have us tossing two of our guys that have the highest ceilings for a player that's probably already maxed out his potential. Faried brings nothing to the table that we don't have already, while Meyers provides spacing and Noah provides hope.
-I just like to see Davis on the court. I figured we can't get an all-star PF at the moment so why not get another (upgraded) Davis? -Faried is only 25 yr old, you make it sound like he's over the hill or something. -Aminu (and maybe Hark) can play PF and provide you with that spacing. -Faried is not the end game here, i think he can be useful towards what we're now and i think he is a good name to wave at trade proposals down the road.
I think Faried was massively over-hyped. I wouldn't play him over anyone in our current rotation....except for a poor shooting Meyers. But even Meyers is really starting to pick up his defense and rebounding.
You can't play Faried and Davis or Faried and Plumlee on the floor at the same time, just like you can't play Plumlee and Davis. I literally see no point for this trade, for now, or the future. You say Faried is useful for trades in the future, but at the same time you're dealing two of our best assets for him.
Nah, Faried duplicates plumlee and Davis too much. We need a pf that is a non garbage bucket guy. And one that is an elite scorer.
Also, we're going to be re-signing Meyers and Harkless next year, and CJ the year after that, so that's might well be 30 mil in cap space.
I was a huge Faried fan but he quit being the super garbage man that made him so appealing. He wants to be a scorer and defense has taken a back seat - as did his rebounding.
Reading the Memphis board, it seems that if the Grizz were to "blow it up", Randolph would likely be one of the guys they would consider dealing. What would you think of the idea of bringing a matured Z-Bo back to Portland?
I don't know, i try to look at this team a year or 2 from now and this is what i see: -Hendo is gone. -Mayers either sucks and sits on the bench\Overpaid if he had a decent year\on a different team who offered him insane dollars. -Vonleh is becoming a 6-10ppg player and steadily improves while everybody else is already in prime form. I think that most the concern in this trade drains down to losing a future star in Vonleh, but what if Kenneth Faried right now is the ceiling for future Vonleh? Faried is not my favorite bigman in the NBA, but he is a good, solid player to have.
See this is the problem. I only see us wanting to pick up amazing young studs. Their teams aren't going to give them up. I think that means we need to ride it out until we can get close to a deep play off run and get a vet to fill a need on a short contract.
Really should've asked you, since it was your thread... And I think you (and JFizzle) are right--if this team is ready to approach the playoffs this year, trading project PFs for a polished PF who can score consistently might be the way to go. Not sure if I'm ready to add a 34-y0 Z-Bo to our core, but his ground-bound game really shouldn't suffer much due to age.
We really only have one chance at a big trade using multiple players as bait. I think Faried is a duplication as well. So I would say not interested. One more poor free throw shooter is not an option in my mind. Anxious to see what the hype about Alexander is all about. Sounds like another junkyard dog in the making. I would hold off for the outside possibility of an elite shooter being available to go with Dame and CJ. I like our SF's now, but no reason not to upgrade if possible.
Fuck Faried. I wouldn't trade Meyers, Vonleh, or Henderson in a 1:1 trade for him, let alone all three for him.
