Such awful news. I don't want to mess up the RIP thread with seemingly meaningless ownership issues at the moment. Here's the latest:
The NBA would never allow a team to be ripped from a city that actually supports it. You can worry about a new owner not being willing to pay luxury tax or for 2nd round draft picks or whatever but the team isn't moving.
Who's wealthy enough in Portland to keep them in Oregon? Will an ownership group (Merritt Paulson) form?
Yup After the Sonics debacle the nba won’t allow a team like the blazers move from a growing popular market like Portland
For those that think the team might move, name one situation where a team moved or threatened to move that didn't have to do with arena issues?
No. He could put an investment group together but basketball isn't really his passion. He is too busy running the Timbers and the new park PP expansion.
One would think that Seattle would need to focus first on finding local ownership for the Seahawks. Seems tough to find owners for two teams.
Look, if they haven't relocated garbage franchises like the Hawks, Grizzlies, Pelicans, etc., they're never going to move a franchise that always ranks in the top 5 in attendance.
Some of them were the money behind Terry Porter's bid to buy the Blazers when the team was for sale years ago.
You pay a billion for the Blazers you can move the team. The Bucks went for over half a billion 4 years ago. The market has only gone up.
