ugh. Three years since Batum was traded and we still haven't found a viable replacement. Harkless is good for about 15 games a season-- he fools everyone into thinking he's gonna be the permanent fixture at SF only to fizzle out. I don't believe in him anymore. ET is trash and doesn't fit with Dame/CJ. Trent is a 19 yr old second rounder. What a shit roster.
If Harkless doesn't come out strong, I hope they make that call. PER:OppPER for players that logged minutes at SF: cj PER 29:6 Aminu 16:2 (14:18 at PF) Harkless 15:15 ET 11:13 (21:12 at SG) Outside of three guard lineups (cj), I would like: 1) Aminu (I still like him better at SF, and Collins sliding to his slot at PF) 2) Harkless (could move to #1 if he can light a fire under his effort) 3) Trent/Layman, whoever can actually hit the open shots when in; Stauskus maybe in a pseudo three guard lineup.
Except three of those are really guards and one of those three should never be playing SF (ET) according to the stats.
The problem with playing Aminu at the 3 is that we are already paper thin up front. We almost have to have him play the 4.
If we were 100% healthy then we could get by with it. But how often does that happen. I would still start Aminu at SF and then when the contracts are cleared, try to trade whichever guard I didn't want for a backup 4/5.
Aminu is still our best small forward. We need an actual power forward. If Zach can fill that role, so be it, but Aminu should be the starting small forward.
Don’t see how that trade would look like. The guy we should be going after on Brooklyn is LeVert. He’s not starting and could probably be had for our pick next year. We can absorb him with Vonlehs TPE
Wow..just took a peek at what and who we have on the roster at this point. Looks like we are aiming to get some big time production from our youth. Is it just me of are they setting the table for a mid season trade flurry?
He will play a majority of his minutes at the 4. There will be a lineup Stotts uses during a game here and there where ge will use Aminu at the 3 with Collins and Nurk at the 4 and 5
Harkless can't seem to get his act together, and Turner/Stauskas haven't shown they can play the position. Trent isn't ready and I have very little faith in Layman - but if the position is going to be a liability it makes more sense to go young. OTOH, you could go with Aminu and throw Collins into the fire at the 4. Either way, the team will suffer through serious growing pains. This is the cost of drafting "prospects" instead of basketball players. This may be Olshey's biggest off-season failure.
