They're both great offensive players who provide next to nothing on defense. I fail to see how Kanter is a better option for our roster than Luke Babbitt. We have five big men and one small forward. Luke provided some key minutes to a Pelicans team that made the playoffs. Babbitt started 19 games last season and is just under 3 years older. He could likely be signed for a very small contract.

Now that we suck, we should consider holding a Former Blazers Tryout Camp. We should give a second chance to all players who couldn't cut it. Nolan Smith, Armon Johnson, etc. should be welcomed back with open arms because we only have, what, 4 players on the roster.

Babbit's ceiling is Kyle Korver, Enes Kanter's is Brook Lopez. Though I would like to have Babbit back of he keeps shooting 50+% from 3.

If Babbitt was 7' tall, someone would be throwing an 8 figure contract at him.

I think Babbitt would be a decent (and cheap) pickup for this team at this time. In fact, I'd much rather have Babbitt than Dorell Wright.

As for Kanter, as I posted elsewhere, I'd rather develop and roll with Davis/Plumlee/Meyers/Vonleh/(Kaman) and use our money on players at other positions of need.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
You know, the last two years Babbitt really has been an offensive force, posting Offensive Ratings of 109 and 117 (100 is league average, higher is better). Of course, that's been in pretty small sample sizes. I wouldn't expect that to continue given a larger role. I don't think Babbitt is as good as Kanter, but A. I'm not a fan of Kanter anyway, B. Babbitt would be far less expensive and C. the Blazers badly need some wing depth and don't really need more front court players.

I'd be fine with bringing Babbitt back as a rotational player.

^this. And as he is more mature, there is probably less chance of spazz-out moments. Good situational shooting combined with fewer "Jarretts" on a cheap contract for a semi-wing player isn't the worst thing in the world.

There are decent reasons for bringing in people with one exceptional NBA skill. Don't give them 8 figures or 35mpg, but Babbitt would've helped us out more last year than Claver did.
