There has been a lot of debate over which free agents the Blazers could and should have signed to get better. My questions are. Which teams have improved from last season by signing free agents? And how much did they improve?
Which teams improved? Answer: Not Portland, NOT YET. Hope Springs Eternal, and things probably won't get going until after James Signs.
Teams that matter? No one yet. Outside of that, maybe Dallas. But most of these early deals have been pretty bad values imo.
Nets acquiring Ed Davis is too similar to when they acquired Reggie Evans. Ed Davis doesn't make the Nets better sorry.
They have cap space, they're just storing it for a year in the form of Ed Davis. He's a 1-year Certificate of Deposit, of sorts. Why they're doing this at the beginning of free agency is mystery to me.
Dallas got better. I would add the Suns got a little better with Ariza, but they used up their cap space to sign him. The best part of this is. They made Houston weaker. That is it so far. Two of the three weakest teams in the west got a little better by signing free agents. So far. There are few names still out that will make a difference. But with less cap space available. My guess is the real action will start when teams need to trade players to make cap room for a free agent they want.
We have gotten worse. Also, let's not forget, other teams in the west got better through the draft too.
I was going to say the same thing. Great idea for a thread, but I think it will catch on and burst wide open after The Decision2.0 happens and then the rest of the teams fight like hyenas over the scraps.
Dallas got a little better and maybe the suns. I still don't think either team are a playoff team with there signing.
