The White Sox have acquired right-hander Anthony Ranaudo from the Rangers for minor-league righty Matt Ball, according to team announcements. Ranaudo was immediately optioned to Triple-A Charlotte.

Ranaudo, 26, will provide back-end rotation depth for a White Sox club that recently cut ties with veteran John Danks and has been looking for additional rotation options. Chicago currently has Miguel Gonzalez slotted into its fifth rotation spot and is seriously pursuing Tim Lincecum, but the addition of Ranaudo will give the team another option for the rest of the season.

Ranaudo appeared in two major-league games for Texas this season, allowing seven earned runs in 3.2 relief innings.
