I'm in McCarran waiting to fly to Portland and I planned to stay with my brother for the weekend. His house in only 3500 square feet or so. Not really good enough for me.

Maybe post some pics and I'll choose which one of you to grace with my presence.

I did rent a Camry for when I get there if that makes it clearer about my @HCP baller status.

You like buttermilk and grits? How about cornbread, buttermilk biscuits and red eye gravy?

Believe it or not, my Alabama grandmother use to make those and more and they were all really good.

Edit: One exception - I don't like grits.

Gonna meet my mom's new and first real boyfriend in 30 years. Gonna scream Daddy and hug him.

At our family reunions which were large, we always had turnip greens, iced tea, Southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes and red eye gravy, corn on the cob and some kind of dessert, usually a fried apple pie. The fried apple pies and the fried chicken were out of this world. The iced tea washed it all down in a very nice way. And then there was all the laughter and family just happy to see each other, even Lanny and my brother Jeff raised up here in the North with our "Northern brogue" which my aunt Betty said was so cute.

These days most of the family has been laid to rest but what's left just adores my wife. She's a hit wherever she goes. Sly's significant other is equally popular but in a different way. Everybody likes her a lot more than we like Sly. Shhh, I don't want him to hear this.

Was in LA last weekend and stopped at a little dumpy restaurant called Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken. Almost choked I was eating it so fast. Hadn't had fried chicken in 3 or 4 years. Soo goooood.

The best I've ever had, over that grandmother's home fried chicken, was a broasted chicken restaurant in Oswego, Oregon back in about 1956 or so. I think it was about 39 cents for an order of three pieces. I could go half a block away and get a phosphate soda, which was basically a home made soft drink, for 3 count 'em, three cents. Believe it or not, I had trouble coming up with that kind of dough, that is until my paper selling job at the Piggly Wiggly on State Street. Just for the record, the broasted chicken joint was on the SouthWest corner of State St. and 'A' avenue. The soda fountain was North about half a block on State street. The Piggly Wiggly was just North of 'B' avenue on State Street. I spent half my life riding my, first a one speed and then a three speed, bike on State Street.

Great town for a little sort of Tom Sawyer like kid to grow up in. Fishing in Tryon Creek and Oswego Lake and Swimming all day every summer in Oswego Lake at the public free pool. Couldn't afford the pay pool 'cause it was a whopping ten cents.

Never delivered the newspaper in Oswego but serviced the news stand machines and sold out of hand in taverns and bars and at the Piggly Wiggly.

I fixed a new top of the line camry this week. Black with red leather and grey suede striped seats. Really nice. Went to get it out of the paint shop and it was parked next to a CBR 600 Honda.

Looked at both and said to myself...rather drive the Camry.

    I'm officially old.

I've had fried chicken in Korea that was pretty good. Never had any Japanese fried chicken.

I've got a buddy who lived and worked in mainland China for two years who said that the chickens over there had drum sticks that were so small that they were essentially useless, not worth eating.
