Me or Travis Outlaw? It occurs to me that I might be more famous than Travis Outlaw. He does yield more Google searches than me, but when I was on "Bones," 10 million people watched me every week. Only 10 million people watched the Dream Boston-LA Finals matchup and Travis Outlaw was, of course, nowhere near that series. My show is watched all over the world. In fact, I got swarmed by fans when I was in Germany last fall. Outlaw's games aren't shown worldwide, for the most part. Of course, the superstars like Roy, LeBron, Kobe, Shaq are way more famous than me. But Travis? I think it's at least a push. Thoughts?
You are by far more famous than Travis Outlaw...lol too funny... Nobody beside diehard NBA fans know who Outlaw even is
Outlaw. Some people might know your character but they aren't that likely to recognize your name. People who have a decent knowledge of the NBA can at least place Outlaw on the Blazers as a forward.
But how many people have a decent knowledge of the NBA? 5 million? If that? Of course Travis is more famous around here and on NBA message boards. But fuck, some TV announcers don't know his name and they are paid to know his name. My name in and of itself isn't that famous, but "the guy from Bones" is.
Outlaw is the 6th man to a POR team that gets no national coverage...are you guys serious??? How the hell could he be more famous than Eric who was shown on a very popular network television show.
exactly....nobody will know your real name but the will recognize your face. Not a lot, but sure as hell a lot more than Outlaw
You say that because you live in a sports bubble. But most people don't give a fuck about basketball. At all. But lots of people watch "Bones" every single week. The only time the interest in the NBA rises is in the Finals and even then, it's only about the same amount that watches "Bones." I would guess the average person only knows who LeBron, Kobe, Yao, and Shaq are. To test my theory, I tried to name three NHL players. I couldn't do it. I don't give a fuck about hockey so its not on my radar. I can only name about 5 NFL players and maybe around 10 MLB players. My name isn't that famous, but put our faces on a test given to all of America, people will identify me as "the guy from Bones" way more often than anyone would identify Travis as "the guy on the Blazers."
do you get recognized alot in public? i'd imagine outlaw does if he goes to a store, mall, aeroporte, etc
Yes, I do. Outlaw will always get noticed because he is tall. Just about anyone, whether you know sports or not, would be able to identify him as a basketball player. And of course, more people would know Travis in Portland more than they would me. But I'd hold my own with him, I think.
Start up an account on some very active random forum that isnt about sports or TV. Hopefully one with an active "off topic" area. Put a face pic of yourself and Outlaw. Tell people they cant search for answers and ask if they recognize either person. Tell them they dont even have to know the name of the person, just where they saw him. After you get some responses give us the link...should be interesting
I just used Travis as an example because I forget how famous I am in the context of things. In the scheme of things, not many people watch NBA games. We live in this sports internet world so we know all about even guys like Jamario Moon and DJ Mbenga, but most people wouldn't. And there are a ton of message boards like this but that are about me or Bones.
I didn't say that because I live in a sports bubble. I said it because I hope deep down inside that people would recognize the guy who didn't ask a question like this.
