Aminu sucked last night, but Swanigan and Collins didn’t sniff the floor. Why is that? Stotts got some splainin to do.
Looked to me like Stotts really wanted to go with a tight 8 man rotation. He ended up playing Napier because he needed the extra scorer and matchup.
The interesting thing is what will Collins be in 2 years - because if he fills up and learns quickly - he might be the guy you put on someone like the Freak. Not playing him last night however was more than reasonable. We were one questionable non-call on CJ from winning it.
Tater Totts is maddening! I mean, maybe someone else would have done an even worse job defending Giannis than Turner/Aminu, but you gotta at least TRY someone else to see if they can do better. I'm not on the Jake Train, but Jake at least has more size than Turner and would have made it harder for Giannis to shoot over the top of him. He's athletic enough that if you tell him his only responsibility is to stick on Giannis like glue, there's a decent enough chance that he defends at least as well as Turner and perhaps a bit better. I really don't get why we stuck with an 8-man rotation when we were on the 2nd of a B2B and our players were either (a) looking gassed or (b) getting lit the fuck up. This was the 3rd game of the season, not the Playoffs!
You trying with each of you post to hate on Stotts for any dumbass reason you can come up with is riddiculous. Jake Layman ? Come on.
I’m shocked that our coach didn’t try two completely unproven rookies against the most mobile and athletic seven-footer maybe ever, in a game in which we were never more than two possessions out of the lead! What the hell!
I can see that Swanigan wasn't a good fit for the kinds of lineups the Bucks were using. He'd have to guard a SF. He'd have been good on the boards, and he surely brings good energy. Using Layman would have been a desperation move. As it went, we were ahead with < 1 minute left and really should have won if we executed.
I hate Stotts. I do. I won't deny it. But when something isn't working, you gotta try something else. Jake is big, athletic, and smart - replace Aminu with Jake, slide Turner onto Middleton. Good chance the defense improves and there's zero drop-off in offense. There are tons of reasons I hate Stotts, and this was but a drop in the bucket.
I believe we were outscored 25-9 at one point - that would have been a good time to feel a little desperate and try to actually affect the player who is thrashing us.
But we'll never know. And I'm not even talking about the 4th quarter - how about the 2nd quarter when we had our biggest lead and then gave it all away? That would have been a prime time to try something new. I just looked it up because I was curious what the point swing was - it was an 18 point swing in the 2nd quarter!
What are you talking about ? If Jake was better than Aminu on both sides of the ball, he would be starting.
This and they have a couple nights off before the next game. This is only game 3. There will be plenty of time for them to be eased in.
Collins would been my choice due to he long and he does play pretty good D. His problem would be his strength but still his length would still bother shots.
