The San Antonio Spurs announced that Erin Popovich, the wife of 69-year-old coach Gregg Popovich, passed away on Wednesday. "With deep regret the San Antonio Spurs announce that Erin Popovich, wife of Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich, passed away earlier today," the statement read. "Erin and Gregg were married for four decades and were blessed with two children and two grandchildren." Spurs general manager R.C. Buford, whose team is scheduled to play Game 3 of its first round playoff series against Golden State on Thursday, offered his support in the statement as well. "We mourn the loss of Erin,” Buford said. “She was a strong, wonderful, kind, intelligent woman who provided love, support and humor to all of us.” The circumstances surrounding her death were not immediately known. https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...io-spurs-coach-gregg-popovich-dies/530853002/
Well, this doesn't sound sudden so it looks like he's been working hard with his wife on her death bed. That's pretty tough too.
Jesus, married for 4 decades. That's just... married longer than I've been alive. Unreal. Here's to you, Pop.
Warriors forward Kevin Durant learned of Erin Popovich's death shortly after the Spurs released their statement. "I just want Pop to know that the whole NBA family is supporting him and got his back through it all," Durant said. "It's bigger than the game. It's bigger than winning and losing. It's about the brotherhood we built as NBA players and everybody in the NBA family. I feel so bad for Pop and his family. That's just tough to hear about." http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...nio-spurs-coach-gregg-popovich-dies-wednesday
Thoughts and prayers sent. This might explain, maybe, some of Pop's more quiet demeanor this playoff series? He's looking older than ever. I imagine this was probably a long-time illness. RIP.
I would be useless to anyone especially as a coach for quite a while. It reminds me of when I was in a war and my commanding officer called me into his office and told me my father died. I had all kinds of crap I had to do to get out of there and back for the funeral. I was like a blob not wanting to do anything but sit and cry but I had to man up and fulfill all kinds of requirements before they'd let me out of the country. Then I had to fly back with a plane full of guys going through the same depressive crap all the way back to the Bay area. We stopped in Guam to refuel and in the waiting room some ass hole officer chewed me out 'cause in my haste I had left the country without my cunt hat. I took his tongue lashing and said nothing. He soon got tired of chewing me out and walked away. Then when I got to the states I passed by these barrels with signs urging us to discard any contraband but I had none. They had also eliminated the khakis that we had been issued as appropriate dress when off base. So, we had to go to tailors and get fitted with dress greens. All this crap and my life had come to a screeching halt with the news of the loss of my father. I have a great deal of sympathy for what Pop is going through. God bless Pop and the Bush family, although a Liberal, I'm deeply with them.
I think that is a bit crass of the reporter to ask James that right after the game. Lebron had no heads up to that question and to just spring it on him on live TV knowing that he is close to Pop is just a bad look for that reporter.
