Okay I get it, more schools means more money but at what cost? Adding teams like Oklahoma and Texas is going to make it near impossible for teams like OSU to ever win a Pac Whatever championship again. It was hard enough before the league expanded and adding teams like Colorado and Utah didn't change that much but adding even more teams? Ouch! Why play in a league where you have pretty much no chance of winning the championship year after year?
LOL, that's the never say die spirit. Maybe OSU should have a movie night and show Rudy or something? It's like you idiots are the French and retreat at the first sign of trouble
Psst... I'm a Duck fan. (But Beavers are my 2nd favorite college football team.) I was just wondering why teams like OSU, WSU & Utah would want to be bottom dwellers in a super conference when they could leave and follow Boise State's model for success?
1. Every year every team has a chance. Considering you haven't lost a Pac 12 game this year you still have a chance. 2. Doesn't adding new teams decrease that chance? Doesn't adding teams like Texas and Oklahoma drastically decrease that chance?
I never usually hear of Vanderbilt or Ole Miss saying that they wish they could leave the big, bad, SEC. I think they're quite happy to aspire to aspire to the Poulan Weedeater Bowl every year while collecting that $20M check
Mediocre, that wasn't nice at all!! Sheesh!! Yes, OSU has had a chance (potentially) to get to the Rose Bowl, but so does every team at some point in the season. That road dead ends when the Beavs have to go through the Ducks. I hate to say this, but OSU hasn't won their division outright since 1956. There was a tie or two along the way, but we have to go back over 50 years for an actual conf championship and dominant season. That's really, really, really not good. I'm not sure how much attention the OSU program is going to get in the immediate future, even with an expansion when they can't sell the tickets they need, or even afford proper staff. It's just the way it is. I see the expansion helping some programs, but not OSU. I see it harming OSU in the long run. An option would be for OSU to bolt to the WAC or Big Sky where they could compete with like schools/programs. I know that leaves a bitter taste...but, if the next few years bring us back to 80's and 90's lows...it's a good option.
Geez it's like you guys have Alzheimer's or something. We lost in Eugene 37-33 in 2009 and would have been in the Rose Bowl had we won that single game. A game in which we actually led at halftime. A game in which Chipster decided to play that thug LaGarrette Blount after earlier giving him an indefinite suspension at the beginning of the year.
Look, Sonny...old man Targus may not be as sharp as he was in the 80's, but he does recall this game with great clarity. First, Oregon didn't need Blount. James and Barner were doing just fine with their 200 yards and 3 TD's. Blount earned his limited role and 9 measly carries. Not Blount's fault if your crappy defense (outgained in yards, first downs) that allowed 7 yards per play couldn't stop any of our RB's - including Blount. Also not Blount's fault you ass hats had 10 penalties in the game and it wasn't Blount's fault you couldn't score a point in the 4th Q. Wasn't Blount's fault that Jacquizz Rodgers, the Pac-10’s second-leading rusher with an average of 119.4 yards a game, rushed for just 64 yards. We actually played our 2's and 3's, while OSU's 1's left yet another game in sad, sad shape. AND, you do realize, you were playing for a POTENTIAL position to go to Rose Bowl, because Oregon had only lost ONE conference game that year. You had already lost TWO in conference...THREE total losses include a crap game to Cinncy. 1956 since a Conf Champ. Ouch.
Was it the "ass hat" comment? Look at this way...to some the ass, aka a jackass or donkey is a functional worker, mode of transportation AND padre. A hat is much needed for keeping cool and protecting from the mid-day sun - and functions as an eye-shade for siesta. It was a compliment!
