Let's imagine that for some reason Doncic isn't taken in the first three picks. So he's available at Memphis's #4. Then Memphis gets on the phone and says - hey Neil, you wanted Chandler Parsons, right? How bout you take his contract off our hands if we give you the #4 for CJ McCollum?

I think this is in the realm of the possible. Memphis has sided with Marc Gasol, making it clear that they're hitching their wagon to him. They also gave OBSCENE money to Mike Conley, whose absence last year kind of proved his value. And he's in his 30s now. It kind of makes sense to shoot for a third star, a shooter, to complement them. Plus, small franchise that they are, they've GOT to be regretting that Parsons contract.

So, we swap Parsons for CJ (it works, I checked it) and in the process get Doncic. In case you want to get excited about him, try this:

    Would you do it?

CJ alone should be worth the #4 pick. If you're telling me you can get someone as good as CJ with the #4 pick, you take it every time. #4 picks feel like they have a 40% chance of being a bust.

If we're taking Parsons, they would need to take Turner.

Also drafting a rookie, even a good one, just doesn't make sense with Dame's time line. He'd for sure leave.

I'd consider cj for doncic. Taking on Parsons is too much for me, though.

Yes! That is the perfect trade... Doncic has been playing against grown men for years, he will contribute immediately... Parsons fits what Stotts is trying to do... this adds size and shooting at two positions, makes Blazers more of a complete team now and sets up the future nicely... this team will never win with CJ

    Normally I would agree.

There's no way they'd do that.

Doncic is a generational talent... you don’t turn down acquiring him because of some extra salary... so you would rather stick with a mediocre team with no hope because of some extra money to pay for Paul Allen?! Imagine Doncic and Collins together 3 years from now! And they would be a better TEAM now

The real problem I have with trading an established player for a draft prospect is that there is a much higher chance for the prospect to be a bust than that’s The established players production drops off.

Then when you couple that with Parson...

To me you maybe do that if you’re going to trade Dame too, because you made the decision you’re going to suck for a while and you’re trading Dame out of mercy...

    I'd want more.
    CJ for #4 + Brooks + Parsons + 2020 lotto protected 1st.

    Then, I'd seriously consider it.

You try to include Turner, but if they dont budge you take Parsons in a second if you can flip CJ for Doncic... CJ is an offense only undersized SG that doesn’t pass and is making 25-30 mil the next 3 years... you don’t hesitate to flip that for a possible generational talent... and only reason that deal might be available is because Memphis wants to win now with Gasol

I think NO has made it pretty clear they won’t be trading.

Established at what?? Being mediocre? CJ is a great one on one scorer and that’s about it... this team has peaked... of course there will be some risk if you want greatness... no one is going to trade a for sure thing great player for CJ... I guess you are happy with 1st rd exits

I’m definitely not, but Portland would look super dumb if Doncic or whoever they get at the 4 doesn’t turn out. Because they’d be getting back a bench warmer on a ludicrous contract and a bust. CJ has his deficiencies but he’d start on most NBA teams.

By the way if they traded C.J. for parsons and Doncic theirs a good chance they won’t be in the playoffs so they don’t have to worry about the 1st round exit. Parsons has no knee’s, and Doncic well might be good, night end up sucking too.

What do you not understand about the fact that you have to take a big risk for a big return? Yes he could bust but he could also be a superstar... you are either ok with the current mediocre product or not... taking a gamble is the only way out... and Parson fits this team... 6’10” PF that hits 3’s

I disagree with you... the team would be deeper and more balanced... Dame is what made this a playoff team, not CJ

They both did. No way we make the playoffs without CJ's contributions.

CJ is an all-star on any East coast team and a great #2 or #3 option for a contender.

If Doncic is a generational talent, he's not going #4.

CJ is a good #3 at best... he is not an all star, and will never be on this team... the lack of flow and passing in the offense with Dame and CJ together negates any individual talent he brings on offense... this team would be much better with Doncic and Parsons now, and in the future
