Would you trade Nic Batum for Omer Asik straight-up?

Realistically speaking, if the Rockets are shopping Asik and weren't just interested in cap space, we would not have the assets to make that trade outside of Alridge, Batum, and Lillard. I love Wesley, but he's not going to get it done.

Let's say the Rockets got Dwight and were interested in a glue guy that can handle the ball, shoot the three, rebound, and play good defense. They offer us Omer Asik straight up for Nic Batum (with a couple negligible pieces to make the trade doable)...would you give him up?

Of course, we could probably also chase down an average SF to replace Batum (Dorell Wright sounds unlikely though). But the situation comes down to plugging one leak and another popping up.

Chandler Parsons already fills this role for them, and it's not out of the question they view Parsons more highly than Batum

This deal is dead on arrival

Would such a deal 'move the needle'?

Hm. If Claver had been a lot better than he was, or if we hadn't given up Kostas, I might consider it. But I'd probably still say no. I love Asik, but I love Batum more. And besides, we fucking HAD Asik and gave him away - it would kill me to give up too much to get him back.

Yeah if we could pull off hickson for asik; that would be ideal. I mean it would be basically for nothing if you really think about it.

Oh Geez! I would not probably feel any worst than I do about where this team is going.

But Damn! Trading Nic for a guy we drafted in the second round sucks. If they did that, then I assume they have no hope for Leonard and that makes me feel even worse.

I need up, you got any?

Yes. Batum could be replaced with a SF like Dorrell Wright w/o missing a beat.

I actually agree because I don't think Batum isn't as important to our success as a solid center. If I had to choose between Aldridge (wanting to stay mind you) or Nic, I would definitely pick Aldridge.

I would too but it still leave a hole in the end. Something you would have to address at some point. I don't believe it moves the needle.

Think about this though. That trade would probably give us another 3 mil free. That, and the 9 mil we already have could nab iggy, for example. I mean wasn't he getting around 13 mil per?

But would they use it or sit on it? Yes, if it's executed like that were improved

I wouldn't do it. I still have hopes for Batum, if he can produce like he did mid-season. Yeah he is a little overpaid, but that's what Portland has to do to keep talent. Leonard will be better than Asik after this year anyway, so it would be a net loss of Batum.

I still have hopes that Asik is coming via a JJ trade when Hou gets Howard, so its moot anyway.

Batum to the Hawks, Josh Smith to the Rockets and Asik to Portland?

Houston will be over the cap if they sign Howard. They can't do a sign-and-trade under the new CBA in that case.

I would bet you my car and house that EVERY FUCKING TEAM IN THE ENTIRE NBA would rather start Nic Batum than Wright. If I'm wrong, PLEASE enlighten me.

The Blazers would have to sign Hickson, though. Eh, I may be wrong, but I thought that was one of the reasons the Heat have almost no options for player movement this summer. They can't trade for another team's FA via sign-and-trade. Houston isn't trading Asik unless they sign Howard, and doing that puts them at the cap.

The without missing the beat comment wasn't saying Batum is worse than wright, but asik + wright is better than Batum and a shitty center.

Still don't know if I agree with that though

We wouldn't use hickson and probably release him, or sign and trade to another team. This is the concept if we use Batum, instead of hickson.
