Last chance, WWE! After a rather uneventful and uninspiring Monday Night Raw, tonight’s Smackdown is the last impression we’ll get prior to Sunday’s Royal Rumble. Any last-minute swerves in play? Let’s find out… This opening segment is Rooty…Tooty…Booty. Chris Jericho opens the show with a promo to hype up the Rumble, but gets interrupted by The New Day. Despite being some of the most-gifted speakers in the company right now, both Jericho and The New Day get a C- grade for this back-and-forth exchange (and that might be on the generous side). Finally, Jericho announces that The New Day will be in six-man action tonight, but he’s saving himself for Sunday night. The New Day will take on The Uso’s andDolph Ziggler. After some fast-paced action to start the match, The New Day isolate Jimmy Uso for about seven minutes. He’s finally able to make a hot tag to Ziggler who clears the ring. One of the Uso’s flies over the top rope to take out Big E and Kofi. All three babyfaces surround a helpless Xavier Woods in the ring and execute a triple superkick for the win. Next, we’ve got Becky Lynch against the girl who un-friended Paige on social media, Alicia Fox. Charlotte and Ric Flair take a seat at ringside to enjoy the match. Alicia and Becky put on a good, physical match that featured a fisherman’s suplex on the outside of the ring by Fox (she hooked the leg and everything…perhaps she thought it was a falls count anywhere match?). They go back-and-forth for a couple of minutes before Alicia goes for a slam that gets reversed by Becky into the Dis-Arm-Her for the clean submission win. Lots of attention was paid to Ric and Charlotte at ringside, but they never leave their chairs.
