Xavi Urges Fans To Give Henry Time
Barcelona’s playmaker, Xavi Hernández, has no doubts that Thierry Henry will return to his scintillating best for the Catalans in the near future.
The £16m purchase from Arsenal is yet to showcase the form that made him one of the world’s best forwards, but Xavi insists that will all change as player and team adapt to each other’s game,
"Henry is a great player, an extraordinary talent," he said.
"It is normal that while he is adapting that he is not at the level he showed for Arsenal yet.
“But it is only a matter of time." Furthermore, Xavi believes that the team could use Henry’s main strength’s better to speed-up the Frenchman’s acclimatisation,
"He is very quick and has a fifth or a sixth gear," he continued.
"Maybe we should make more use of that, which is one of his strengths.
“He is player that can do anything and it is important that we help him.
“The team is working towards playing more directly at certain stages in games.
“We have to improve those things tactically and are working on them in training."
With Sunday’s game against Almería shaping up to be one in which Barca’s squad shall be tested, Xavi took the time to praise the likes of Eidur Gudjohnsen and Yaya Touré,
"[Eidur] is a player that operates in midfield and has great technique, whilst [Touré] allows us to do other things, to dedicate ourselves to more creative tasks."
Xavi finished by admitting he doesn’t expect Almeria to play the same defensive game empolyed by Glasgow Rangers in the midweek Champions League contest, instead he feels the game will be a better one to watch for fans,
"I do not think that they will have the same approach," he said.
"They are a daring team, who like to pass the ball and in the Bernabéu they played very well.
“They go out to play attacking football and that could be good for us."
