In checking all things baseball I have been noticing as have many others the dive of the Astros. Their overall league lead is now down to 4.5 games over Boston. They do play Boston the last four games of the season so things could get pretty interesting. The Yankees will be playing 19 games in September against Eastern Division Teams all looking to insure that they (Yankees) finish with a fail. No one has one anything yet so hopefully the walking wounded will be able to return to the fold and have a successful season. The Yankees need to take this series to stay afloat. Jmo pitched a pretty good game last time out, hope it continues.

It's the Dodgers and everyone else right now. Need to go 29-14 to match the 1998 Yankees and obviously 30-13 to top them.

Looks like horrendous weather tonight in boston making a day-night doubleheader tmo or sunday a possibility. I think Yanks are going to be in a great position for the stretch drive. Will be getting back bird who was 2-4 yesterday with a rbi in rehab game, castro and holliday. That should push headley and frazier into a 3rd base platoon with bird mostly and either austin or cooper getting the remaining first base at bats. In addition for the stretch run we will have torreyes, wade and whoever doesn't play out of gardner and ells bury as late game pinch runners along with the best bullpen in baseball. Setting up for an exciting finish!!

...yup, but if they fail to win it all like the 2001 Mariners no one will care or remember how many games they won during the season.

At 116 wins in the 1906 Season the Chicago Cubs set the record at .753. They were swept 4 straight by the White Sox in the 1906 World Series. The Seattle Mariners 116 game season was at a .716. In order to truly break that 1916 record a team would have to win 122 games. We all know what happened to the Mariners. The 1954 Cleveland Indians set a then American League Record at 111 wins for.720, The Yankees 114 got them in at .703. Long term Fans all remember or have read about the '54 Cleveland team stunned by Willies catch then getting swept. Granted the Dodgers are on a roll but no one has won anything yet.

...I share your optimism but I don't think Greg Bird will come back and simply take over 1B real soon...big difference in rehabbing in the minors vs facing real MLB pitching, playing full games in succession, and running the bases competently. It also has a lot to do with making roster space as well, I mean if Bird is called up someone will have to be sent down and CC, Holliday, and Castro will also be back soon too. Depending on well he progresses, I think the Yanx may well wait time the roster is expanded in September. Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for Bird but I think he's just got a lot more rehab and work to do before he becomes a regular 1Bman.

I looked at the Forecast for Boston and it doesn't seem like a total washout. I think there could possibly be a delay at some point.

I think if bird looks nearly as good in the rehab games as he did in the batting practices girardi was salivating about he'll be back next week sometime. As for who goes down for 10 days till rosters expand the candidates are austin, wade, mitchell. I think the guy they'll hold if anyone is holliday.
