Anyone have any idea why we're starting Tanaka instead of Paxton? https://sports.yahoo.com/yankees-start-tanaka-game-1-232909728.html
Tanaka has only allowed six earned runs in 35 post season innings. I don't have an issue with him getting the ball in game one. With Verlander and Cole in games two and three it's not a bad decision.
Obviously I hope it pans out, but personally, I'd put more value on recent history than past history, and Paxton has been by far our best pitcher recently. He won 10 games in Aug & Sept and the Yanx won all of his 11 starts during that time. Needless to say, for the Yanx to have a real shot they must steal one of the first two games at Houston and the more I think about it, maybe Boone's decision has more to do with the fact that Greinke is also starting Game 1 tonight.
Winning the first game is vital and the step towards a victory to game two. Confidence is everything . I hope Tanaka brings his mojo and Stanton actually gets his head into the game.
Yup, and to Messiah's point, starting your 3rd best pitcher on the road in game 1 worked out OK for the Nats yesterday. As far as Stanton, I never liked the trade to acquire him. He's strictly a one dimensional masher and defensively, he scares me in the OF.
Houston has been a house of horrors for this team. Hopefully, they come with the same hitting approach that has served them well so far.
This '19 Team is upgraded. at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base. The out field of Judge, and Gardner is fine on "D" hope to see Judge come on with a better bat that '17. Stanton is the elephant in the room, don't trust his "D" or offense rather see Maybin out there, not sure if Hicks made the roster but if so he's got to giddy up at the dish from the get go. I still feel that. I still feel the starting pitching is shaky, and still cursing German for not exercising some self control. With Seve back and German available the staff would have been much stronger. Judge says this team is hungry so we'll find out. I just hope that Boner will make only the best possible moves.
...that's not the post I was referring to..."check the time" of your 2nd post. ...but for whatever reason, you felt the need to come back over an hour later to post essentially the same thing. ...no worries Al,...I'll put it in my memory bank and be sure to remind you when you were wrong..."after the fact" of course.
You made a post about why start Tanaka who's lifetime post season record is terrific. I post my original response in what the first inning of the game and then Tanaka proves, again, why he should take the ball in game one. Its not after the fact ...it was THE facts. It would be totally different if i said it after the game was over.
...gimme a f'n break...you made the second post when the hame was nearly over...Yanx were up 5-0 in the 7th. ...you also also obviously failed to acknowledge the very early in this thread I alluded to the fact that my OP may have been a bit premature and early in the game I admitted that Tanaka was pitching his ass off.
