That kind of mindset would make sense if there weren't plea deals being made, and indictments being handed out like candy.

No. Clearly, the best drugs are in "Beautiful Central Oregon"

Maybe I should relocate. I'd honestly much rather be MAGA right now. It's fucking exhausting being on the right side of history.

Underground secret bunkers also make great psychedelic mushroom farms.

Totally off the point, but I think that “right side of history” line is quite possibly the most absurd thing Obama ever said. There’s no such thing as a correct side of history; just history. Good things happen and bad things happen. History’s just our feeble attempt at keeping records of the events.

What does Obama have to do with this? I'm not following.

And...did you really just call history a "feeble attempt at keeping records?" What the actual fuck? You must be being very literal here.

Obama used the phrase, “right” and “wrong side of history” a lot. Do a google search. One of his favorite notions was that there was some sort of inevitability to history advancing towards positions consistent with his view of justice. Unfortunately, I don’t think actual history bears evidence of that being the case.

And, yes, I was being literal. History literally means writing down the events that happen in a given time period. It doesn’t have a moral correctness to it.

Ok fair enough. I feel nothing about how I or Obama use (used) the phrase

That it does, but ... Idioms are a thing, having said moral correctness means you obviously understood what he meant.

Of course I did, but that’s my issue with it. Take any moral issue, say slavery and other human trafficking as an example. It’s easy to say that those who agree that they should be abolished from the face of the earth are on “the right side of history”. But the reality is that there’s no truth to the notion that believing that principle does anything to solve the problem or keep it at bay. It takes constant vigilance, resolve and dedication of purpose to keep smashing it down whenever it recurs. There’s never going to be a watershed point in history when trafficking is put in the rear view mirror. We love our freedoms in this country and consider then to be inalienable rights. Lose one war to a conquering despot and that notion goes right out the window.

The phrase is politically convenient. It says, “I’m right and if you disagree you’re either hopelessly behind the times or worse, morally bankrupt.” The reality is that things worth fighting for are likely to continue to need to be fought for.

Political convenience has nothing to do with any of this.

I’ll retract “right side of history” and replace it with “right or wrong”

When it’s used by a politician, I think it’s almost always shorthand for I’m right and those who oppose me are dinosaurs, cretins or morally bankrupt. Perhaps all three.
