A thread to bump on draft day. On the eve of the lotto things are a'boot to get interesting. It's not a top heavy draft but it is deep with solid players - even into the second round. I like a number of mid-first guys - Ulis, Valentine, Richardson - but my ideal draft would be to get into the lotto. Of course if you can get a project like Maker on the cheap you have to do it. I liked Zubac - before his medical history was known. Definitely too high of a risk. How? I think you have to pony up Vonleh and the CLE pick. My target would be Domantas Sabonis. He's a lock to go top-10. The legacy angle with Arvydas is cool but Domantas has intangibles/bbiq that can't be taught. Neil has interest, he scouted him in person numerous times - as late as this past March. Go!
I don't think we have means to get into lottery without giving up on someone way too important. Late first is our best bet.
I wouldn't mind seeing us deal +future 1st+Diez rights to get the rights to Sabonis, doubt it would work though. Could also be an overpay too, thank God I'm not a GM.
Plumlee for a mid/late first. Remember that he's going to get paid soon. His value will never be higher.
Trade CLE 1st, Future 2nd for 24th pick Draft Taurean Prince Trade Pat Cannaughton, Future 2nd for 2 BOS 2nd Round Picks Draft Kay Felder and Joel Bolomboy
I dont want a draft day. Wont do us any good. Not sure why some people are sooo fixated on it being the end all to getting better...
As I said, I am fine with 1 pick depending on the price. People saying they see us drafting 2 or 3 players in this draft though are going to be disappointed after the draft is over and we don't imo. I get that the draft time is exciting. We as fans love it. Heck even Paul Allen loves it (probably the biggest fan) but to go from having no picks to 3 picks just isn't going to happen the way I see it. But to answer the question. I would love Sabonis. Can't see a realistic chance at getting him though.
Ideal Draft Day 2016: Hope we don't OVERPAY to do anything!! Doubtful that any rookie can help this team get better in 2017. But if we signed DH.....trading Plumlee and (?) change for ability to get Sabonis would make me happy!
I'm kind of the same mind as Harry. Find a way to get Horford, or get Howard on a reasonable contract, and trade Plumlee for a first round pick or other assets.
I just want our FO to act as if they do have a pick. The prep, the contingency plans, the trades, etc all need to be there. Four teams have 12 of the 30 first round picks. There will be moves made and we need to stay involved if the opportunity presents itself. Keys to consider: 1. Build for the future on Dame and CJ's career arc 2. Improve our frontcourt 3. Improve our defense 4. Get at least 1 more scorer who can get buckets off the dribble 5. Pick up more movable assets -- future picks, cheap contracts, etc Doesn't matter if all this is achieved through the draft or FA.
I see your last statement through draft or FA. Why not a trade? This thread and topic of convo seems to be based around the draft. Can someone please answer my questions to Yuyuza's post? And if you cant, then please explain why this draft should be so relevant top us that we should try to be a player, rather than putting our focus on the FA and trade potentials? I am sorry, but I do not see any upside in entering the draft unless it is to trade the pick in a package. Those who think otherwise, please explain how another young draft player could actually help this team and make an impact next year?
Meh... not interested in the draft this year. We don't have a pick, and at this point we need rotation guys.
Raptors found a rotational wing defender and 3pt shooter with their 46th pick last year. He's averaging double digit mpg in the playoffs on a team that just made the conference finals. Drafting a player doesn't mean burying a wasted roster spot on the bench.
We already have our draft pick this year: Noah Vonleh. Let's continue to groom him and watch him develop. The worst thing we could do would be to move him and watch him break-out like JO did in Indiana. If we do make a pick, I'd buy into the second round and nab GPII from Oregon State. Portland needs a future backup point guard and more perimeter defense in general, both of which GPII is capable of bringing to the table.
Turn connaughton, Montero, and Alexander into a couple of second round picks, take GPII and Felder Or use the draft to trade for a high level player Then sign Horford and Bismack in FA Resign Harkless and crabbe
