Zaki's City Move One Step Closer?

Amr Zaki's move to Manchester City from current owners El Zamalek is looking increasingly likely in news that will disappoint Wigan Athletic fans hopeful of the Egypt international's permanent signing.

The powerful forward has taken the Premier League by storm since arriving on-loan at the JJB Stadium in the summer, and he netted a further brace to take his tally to seven goals in eight games in Wigan's eventual 3-2 loss to Liverpool - the latter of which was a sensational acrobatic volley.

However, Lactics manager Steve Bruce is aware that his club will have the option to buy, but no guarantees of getting, the hitman when the opportunity arises, and cash-rich Manchester City are leading a string of clubs looking to buy the 25-year old.

It would now appear that a switch across Lancashire would look to be the most certain of all the prospective bids as City have arranged a meeting with Zaki's current employer with a view to agreeing a permanent deal for the forward.

Zamalek confirmed as much, saying in a statement: "A Zamalek delegation will fly to either Manchester or Abu Dhabi, not determined yet, to hold talks with City representatives over Zaki."

A fee has not been confirmed, though the £3 million valuation initially discussed by Zamalek and Wigan should the original loan deal have been made permanent is likely to have increased to at least £10 million.
