Hamilton eyed as emergency fill-in at center <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hamilton eyed as emergency fill-in at center By PHIL JASNER jasnerp@phillynews.com The 76ers' search for an emergency big man apparently has led them to former St. John's center Zendon Hamilton, currently with the Yakima Sun Kings and leading the Continental Basketball Association in rebounding. The Sixers have been in touch with Sun Kings officials, but their ability to sign the 6-11 Hamilton hinges on whether they can clear a spot on their injured list or get an IL exception from the NBA. Sixers president/general manager Billy King said only that Hamilton was "one of the players" they were considering. The Sixers have the maximum allowed three men on the IL: center Todd MaCulloch and forwards Monty Williams and Glenn Robinson. Forward/center Marc Jackson is expected to miss up to 8 weeks after surgery yesterday to repair a fractured ring finger on his left hand. Robinson is expected to miss at least another week or 2 with a high left-ankle sprain, and Derrick Coleman basically is day-to-day with a left knee problem. The Sixers' only other big men are Samuel Dalembert and Amal McCaskill. Hamilton, 28, is averaging 14.1 rebounds and 20.4 points for Yakima, where coach Bill Bayno said he expected him to play tonight against Rockford. A decision from the NBA might not come until early next week. "He has great energy, can score and has quick post-up moves," Bayno said, confirming that the Sixers had been in touch. "He's a perfect Band-Aid for that situation." Hamilton was waived Oct. 28 by Golden State. He appeared in three games with Toronto last season on a 10-day contract; in previous seasons, he has played for the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver. He averaged 15.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in four seasons with St. John's. </div> http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/7418983.htm
League leader in rebounding? Sounds like a big man we need. Jackson out. Coleman out. Definantly a must in our situation. Hope something works out with this guy or any other solid forward/center that would help us in our time of need.
I know Bayno. He's a dynamite of a coach so if he says Hamilton has great energy, you can be sure he has great energy.
Hamilton is a good worker, good rebounder and gets points by going after loose balls. He could be ok for Philly.
Yeah, I've seen him play some. Pretty good pickup if we get him. We are certainly in need of more big men, not just because of our injuries, but because Derrick will soon want out (age) and then we will be missing the size.
Yes Ive heard. I am not happy or disapointed. He will probably be like Green was so far when he wasn't injured. Zendon won't see much minutes by hopefully we get a good use out of him, especially being without Marc and Derrick.
Zendon did not play against the Nuggets last night. Obviously we didn't need the use of him. We already had the following big men; Thomas, Dalembert, Coleman, and McCaskill.
