This is better than the Amare deal. Warriors big picture: Is Cohan getting ready to sell? Posted by Tim Kawakami on July 3rd, 2009 at 4:15 pm We’ve all heard the rumors for years. They have been denied each and every time. I’ve listened and not taken the rumors seriously in previous iterations. But this time I’ve heard it from several people very close to the situation and in the league, with little room for doubt on their part: Warriors owner Chris Cohan is believed to be seriously considering selling his 80% stake in the franchise in the next year or two, according to the sources. (He took control of the franchise in January 1995.) In fact, one knowledgeable source said it’s “highly likely” that Cohan will sell most or all of his controlling interest in the team, possibly pulling back only if the current recession unexpectedly continues through 2011 and Cohan can’t get the price he wants. http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawaka...ure-is-cohan-getting-ready-to-sell/#more-5054
Dang, I didn't know that it's Christmas already. Even if it's from Kawakami, I am willing to believe his article... yes, I am that desperate... Will Larry Ellison buy Warriors? Please???
I've been giving this a lot of thought. If Cohan sells the team, I think I will still keep my username. He has done nothing to make me hate him less. Essentially he bought the team, put out a junk product for 15 years, made a boat load of money on us suckers...and sold the team.
I agree, you should keep it. In part because JBB has come to know you by it, but also in part because Cohan's impact on the franchise will resonate long after he leaves, if he ever does. In other words, does GS expect us to forget about all of the painful Cohan years the moment he leaves? Of course not!
Both Marcus Thompson and Kawakami are reporting that the talks are with Ellison!! At least that would mean goodbye Riley, Rowell and probably Nellie. Come on, if Ellison can almost win the America's Cup, he can build a perennial contender.
Even if Ellison came in, I doubt he would immediately fire the front office. Although, I would not have a problem with him firing Robert Rowell.
I'm not so sure about that, he's a pretty decisive guy and doesn't tolerate mediocrity for long. It's pretty obvious to anyone that this front office has been totally incompetent for many years. I think Rowell would be gone rather quickly. Riley might stick around for a while.
That would be so money if Ellison bought the team. Dude seems like hes got some competitive spirit and would do what it takes to put out a winner. Not gonna get my hopes up though.
It's the kind of thing that could have an immediate impact. Chris Bosh, Amare, Elton Brand, hey do you guys want to come play for Chris Cohan? No? How about Larry "one of the richest men in the world" Ellison? Yes, there is quite a difference.
Let me rephrase. Larry Ellison, if he bought the team today, should not blow up the front office except for the very public firing of RR.
I think rather than look at how rich Ellison is, look at how successful he has been. That is the type of culture the Warriors need.
Absolutely, that is a big part of it. But in our culture, and you might argue particularly in the NBA culture, $ = success. That's not how I measure it, but it's probably the majority opinion.
