She's partway through her speech. In some respects, she's absolutely nailing it.

Part of her purpose is to introduce herself and her family, because she's not well known. First she talked about herself and her family on a personal level.

Now she's talking about her accomplishments as governor, which is good.

She needs to address some national or foreign policy issues that are relevant to this campaign to call the speech a real success.

Otherwise, all she's doing is proving she's a very cool person.

I'm sure that she is proving that she can read, also.

I don't think she's reading much. She's certainly rehearsed this speech for days and been coached. She is looking at the teleprompter periodically to remind herself where she is in the speech.

Not that there's that big a difference - I am sure she's saying what she was told to.

On the other hand, she's quite comfortable with the material.

This speech has just as much rhetoric as any of their opponents. I really liked it though. You know a speech is good when it moves you, and makes you think about something.

This style of speech reminds me of a rap battle, but without the rhyming.

Right, any person might use notes on the podium for thier speech. I was just amazed at how sophisticated their electronic, clear, teleprompter was. Looks high tech.

well, I meant more that she didn't write the speech; that the content has just been orchestrated by others.

Let's put it this way, she did not flub it in any way.
She did the attack dog bit well at the end, too
She's certainly no Dan Quayle, or even W, when it comes to speaking.

I said before, and I will say it again. If she were the President, she would be an instant upgrade over W. Someone tell me that I am wrong, I dare you.

    Sarah kicked ass

In addition to the speech, I thought it was pretty cool when the cameras (at least on NBC) caught her little daughter licking her hand and then using it to smooth down her baby brother's hair.

Note to media members from all outlets: How about you and your colleague, "Asian Reporter Tricia Takinawa", simply refer to the baby as a baby and not consistently call him "Downs Syndrome Baby". Sheesh.

That wasn't supposed to be a policy speech. All week she's had her ass kicked by newspapers, tabloid magazines, the liberal media, DailyKOS, stupid media pundits, a disgraced network, and left-wing surrogates.

That was a big fuck you to her critics. Sarah Palin has arrived.

It was a policy speech, in part.

Strategically, she had to accomplish 5 things:
    1) Introduce herself, she's not widely known.
    2) Speak to her experience and accomplishments as governor.
    3) Speak to issues of relevance to the national campaign. Her credentials on a HUGE issue like energy showed.
    4) Prove she can be an attack dog, which is the role of a VP candidate during the campaign.
    5) Not fuck up.

    "A" for all 5.

She's not done yet. Making a prepared speech with days of rehearsal and handlers screening every word and phrase is one thing. Now she has to prove her mettle on her feet when asked questions out of the blue at one of McCain's town hall meetings or at something like a press conference. After that, it's the debates.
