What's so funny about that? Bynum is good defensively, his shot-blocking presence will definitely be an added bonus for us. Gasol isn't as horrible of a defender as he's made out to be either. He did a decent job in the playoffs defensively, and having two seven footers around the basket will make opponents think twice before driving into the paint.
Gasol put up his numbers in losing efforts, like he did in Memphis. He still looked like a pussy on defense.
Gasol played tough against Duncan in the Spurs series. He should be an upgrade defensively at PF (his natural position) over Odom. I do have some concerns about our ability to defend the pick and roll though. The decisions the Lakers make at times on the defensive end are mind boggling. For example, triple teaming Tyson Chandler in the post and leaving Peja or West wide open for jump shots.
Boy do I remember the nights where all of us would shout poor "Pick and Roll" defense in the game threads in here...hahah it was bad.
Um, no he didn't. He was our MVP during the Denver series, and struggled later on in the postseason probably based off of lack of experience. He defense was admirable on Duncan and he didn't get pushed around in the Utah series, even though Utah is one of the most physical teams in the league. One of the reasons why Gasol struggled was because he was forced to play in the paint. Next year, with Bynum back, he'll move back to his natural position at power forward and can finally utilize his mid-range game with the Lakers, something he wasn't able to do all of last season.
Denny, you can't judge Gasol on the finals. He was solid defensively for us. With Bynum coming back, he'll only get better. I can't wait. I've been reading a lot of reports on Bynum. This kid is going to EXPLODE this year.
Duncan's like 34, too. Gasol is going to be an awesome #2 or #3 option and it's true having the two bigs patrolling the paint is going to make it tough on opponents.
He won DPOY two seasons ago, though some of us here think he never was that good a man to man defender. He's also 34 years old. (Welcome to S2!)
You can't blame Camby for Gasol going off in the Denver series. Kobe got into the paint any time he wanted and Gasol was the recipient of wide open dunks and layups. The Nuggets were trying to defend Kobe with Anthony Carter and a half assed zone, which couldn't rotate fast enough. Lakers put on a passing clinic in the Nuggets series.

I don't have to watch chopped up highlight videos to know that I am telling the truth. Especially ones that hardly tell the entire story. Look up how many MPG Anthony Carter played Marcus Camby absolutely killed the Nuggets in that series, almost as much as Kobe did.
