Now, I'm taking FILM this year at University and to broaden my movie boundaries, I'd like to get a chance to watch different types movies. I've been told, and recommend, The Taking of Pelham 123, the older version, mainly because of the newer one coming out next year. You guys got any other movies to recommend for myself OR others
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This isn't my favorite movie because of the drugs and shit, the underlying reason and the superb acting is well worth watching over-and-over again.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Funny, sad, and a horror movie all in one. Lots of academy awards (7, I think). Outstanding cast, great acting. Not only horror, but one of the scariest movies ever, without any gore to it.
You can't go wrong with any of the following: Lawrence of Arabia The Treasure of the Sierra Madre Key Largo Rear Window Vertigo North by Northwest The Maltese Falcon Gunga Din The Adventures of Robin Hood (w/Errol Flynn) Here are some science fiction I like: A Clockwork Orange The Time Machine (original) The Day the Earth Stood Still Forbidden Planet For awhile I was really into westerns. Here are some of my favorites: Shane High Noon Gunfight at the OK Corral The Man who shot Liberty Valance True Grit Rio Lobo Stagecoach Rio Bravo The Undefeated The Searchers (some people call this the greatest western of all time; I didn't think so highly of it, but whatever)
I'm reading the book right now, and it's pretty awesome. Gone Baby Gone The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Taxi Driver Unforgiven Zodiac Young Guns Check em out. They're all good and entertaining. Although you may possibly find Zodiac and Assassination of Jesse James boring at times, not gonna lie.
Jesse James SUCKED. If you're feeling in the mood for that kind of a western, save yourself the trouble and just see There Will be Blood.

Sorry about that! There's a lot of Hitchcock on my list. He was an incredible filmmaker--just ahead of his time. In fact, he had one principle screenwriter--I don't remember his name--who had one of the most incredible runs a writer has ever had. Films like North by Northwest, Rear Window, Key Largo, and Vertigo have just entered the american consciousness and have affected many films since. Maltese Falcon, which I think was directed by John Huston?, is the stereotypical film noir picture. Some people believe that Gunga Din is the greatest adventure movie ever made, and in fact the second Indiana Jones movie is loosely based on it, and it might be fun to watch one right after the other. High Noon is an incredible western, and one of the John Waynes on the list--maybe Rio Bravo or Rio Grande--was his "answer" to it, because he didn't like how the sheriff was treated in HIgh Noon. Shane could be the best western ever, though. It was essentially remade by Clint in "Pale Rider"--it might be interesting to watch them back to back, also. Lawrence of Arabia is worth watching just to appreciate the scope--there are scenes with hundreds of Beduin riding their horses, and you have to remember that they are real and not CGI. It is also interesting to see how Lawrence's rape is implied to get by the censors. (In the Treasure of the Sierra Madre (directed by John Huston also?), Bogart's trip to the whorehouse is implied as well. In Treasure, Bogart makes a slow descent into insanity, which is interesting to watch. There is also a very, very, very famous line in it. Hitch, Huston, John Ford--these are among the very best filmmakers, and the directors you should be targetting in a film class.

man bites dog, its foreign, but fucking crazy. also pi being john malkovitch eternal sunshine of the spotless mind requiem for a dream kung fu hustle 12 monkeys fight club obviously clockwork orange is a MUST SEE (btw, the "milk they are drinking is just that...milk, although i believe they name some made up drugs it is infused with) run lola run brazil is another MUST SEE and a million billion others. if you havent seen these already you should be ashamed of yourself actually.
