Millen: We're doing right thing

Lions president said he, Ford and Marinelli still united in their plan of action, despite results.

ALLEN PARK -- Lions owner William Clay Ford, president Matt Millen and coach Rod Marinelli are taking heat from fans for the team's 0-2 start.

Nevertheless, Millen said Thursday at practice, they're aligned in their belief "what we're doing is the right thing to do."

Millen said he communicates with Ford "all the time."

 He has high expectations," Millen said. "When you have high expectations, you also get frustrated, and there are answers you want, too."

Asked if Ford gets similar answers to those Millen gives the media, Millen said: "There's a little more detail. He asks all the right questions."

Hired as the team's president in 2001, the Lions are 31-83 under Millen. Hopes of long-suffering fans rose after the Lions won all four exhibition games and appeared capable of competing in the NFC North.

But the Lions opened the season with an ugly road loss to the Falcons, then opened their home season at Ford Field with a loss against the Packers.

A fan base already frustrated has grown more irate. Only a last-minute purchase by furniture store Gardner-White ensured a sellout against the Packers.

But Millen gave no inkling of any imminent changes. He said he has faith in third-year coach Marinelli, who is 10-24.

"He's consistent," Millen said. "What he's doing is the right way."

Millen also defended the Lions' roster. He said players were selected and acquired for specific reasons and "the same reasons still exist.

"They still have the same skills and abilities," Millen said. "The staff is in place for the same exact reason. Rod uses the term 'don't blink.' You just keep walking.

"What we're doing is the right thing to do. If they just keep doing what they're supposed to do, we'll be fine."
Dizon sentenced

Rookie linebacker Jordon Dizon was sentenced to 24 hours of community service for driving while ability impaired, the Associated Press reported. Dizon was not present at the court in Boulder, Colo.; lawyers entered the plea on his behalf.

Dizon, who played at Colorado, must also pay $895 and can complete his sentence out of state.
Dizon was arrested April 20. A police report said his blood-alcohol level was 0.097, above the legal limit of 0.08.

LOL...

A lot of truth in what you said. In the 90s, we started drafting poorly (mid 90s), and it basically gutted the team. And its how we fell off.
