I'm new here, I found this board off NetsDaily. Anyway, what are your expectations for the Nets this year? Personally, I think the division is a long shot with the Celtics and Sixers in it. But a 6th-8th spot in the conference is not out of the question.
Hoping Boone has improved, SWat and Yi have developed, Simmons regains some of his game, and the rooks show enough that they can contribute. Then the Nets will have a shot at the playoffs.
Welcome to S2 themiddle91489. I'm less optimistic than you or MisterMontross. If Carter or Harris miss a period of longer than 15 games. I think we'll see the Nets try to fight from being the worst team in the NBA. I think it'll be more fun to watch this year than the last as we are further removed from the drama that plagued the team, and we'll have a chance to root for some home grown/developed talent. -Petey
I truly have no idea. I agree with both Mr. Montross and Petey in that if all things go well, the playoffs are a possibility, but if Carter and Harris miss a lot of games that improvement Mr. Montross talks about will be wiped away. I still wonder what they are going to do with the roster. I expect there will be some move just before the deadline like there was last year, when they dumped Ilic and Robinson. I dont expect much, but who knows.
I think it will be very fascinating to see how (and if) the youngsters develop, and how (and if) the players start to meld and come together as a team. I think that the coming season could be viewed as a novel, with minor characters, subplots, individual character arcs, etc., and it would be a very intriguing story. I think their upside is about what the Sixers accomplished last year. No one expected anything from them. They had some young players, a couple of key veterans, and had recently traded their best player. They started out poorly, but the youngsters got experience, they started to meld, and they came together and roared into the playoffs. The downside for the Nets is, of course, that they start out poorly, lose interest and motivation, and never improve. They've got talent, and they've got a plan, and I think the players should be able to work well together. Whether they are ready is a different issue. Obviously, if Carter gets hurt, then they are doomed. Probably if Harris gets hurt, too, but they may be able to hang tough if Vince can completely take over the team.
I think they will be an interesting and entertaining team to watch, but I seriously doubt they make the playoffs unless Yi and one of the rooks(or Sean) just breaks out. Even then it might be a stretch. But it sure will be interesting to see Yi develop, perhaps later on in the season. Seeing the new guys' progress will be fun too.
Like some here, I just want to see the young guys develop. Playoffs!!!!!!! I dont want to talk about Playoffs!!!!!!! Player by Player, I would like to see: Yi - Brush off the Olympics and last year issues, become a consistant 15pt 6rb 3ast player shooting a decent % from the 3 this year. S.Will - Improving on the Defensive end which hopefully gives him confidence on the Offensive Lopez - Hope he can contribute in the low blocks even though Frank's bigger picture is moving away from one of his strong talents. Ryan - SHoot the 3 consistantly and try to defend the 3. That is it. Shoot the 3. Everything else is gravy. CDR - Develop into a potential 6th man. Points, defense and energy off the bench at the 2 or 3 spot. Harris - Become the leader of this team. Improve his court vision and 3pt shooting. Simmons - I really dont care what he does. He isnt here in two years anyway. Hodge - Hope he can be a solid contributer and he makes this team. Everyone else- Just do whatcha do?
Honestly, and really this is my personal reasoning, I want them to make them so I can wath Nets basketball some more.
Harris will never be the leader while Carter is on this team. Carter is older and more talented. Carter has been on the Nets longer. Carter has the ear of the coach too. -Petey
Yi - defend the 4, rebound and make those 15 foot jumpers. If he can average 14 pts I'd be happy. Lopez - establish a post presence, stay out of foul trouble, rebound, and clog the lane on defense. Boone - rebound, continue success at pick n roll, anchor the defense in the middle and improve free throws Harris - breakout year. With the reins completely off and the experience under his belt I hope he proves a lot of people wrong and shows he is more of a complete pg than given credit for. Swat - just focus on the defense and earn himself some minutes. Needs to play with passion, purpose and smarts. Anderson - hit the three, rebound, and give some occasional surprise scoring in the post. Defense will be gravy. Simmons - hope he shakes off the injuries and can provide some solid defense and a jumpshot. CDR - I can see him as one of the top guys at going to the line. He needs to bring solid defense and slashing on the offensive end. I want the playoffs. If they get there that means these young guys are pretty good.
I'm not expecting much from them... But if Yi & Lopes can produce 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 asts I'll be a happy man
I just want to see a competitive team. That was the most disappointing thing from last year. Seeing this Nets team lose its pride night in and night out. If they play hard every night and show their not going to be pushed around like last year. I'll be a happy season ticket holder.
At the very least, I want the Portland Trailblazers redux. A young, fast, and exciting team that can at least give good teams a run for their money. Of course I want the playoffs as well, and I think it's entirely possible if Harris truly becomes MIP, Carter plays like he just arrived on the Nets, and the Rookies and Sophomores step up.
I understand what you are saying. Let me change my comment. I hope Harris rips the C off the front of Carter's jersey and becomes the leader of this team. Is that better? The post reads : What do YOU expect.....?
To be honest I was more upset about losing Jason Collins. I knew Jason had one foot out the door for awhile so for some reason it didn't hit me as hard as it should have.
Ok, but that doesn't change the likely hood. And if the Nets plans to bring in a major FA in 2010, don't think Harris would lead then even if Carter were moved. -Petey
