You tried to make some correlation with him losing in the first round and such, then I retorted. In other words you can't back it up, just let it go. Like I said, don't pseudo-slander (lol I know it is not that serious since this is just basketball, but accept this made up term I created ) him in that fashion. The whole point of this discussion is that people are getting way carried away.
How did he get dominated in that series? Lol at the T-Mac comparison. And T-Mac is a shell of himself in Houston.
to go deep into the playoffs, you gotta beat good teams, the Spurs were the good team other teams beat to make it past the 2nd round, never vice versa. oh and Terry Cummings the dip affected his regular season stats and his playoff stats and if you're the main man on your team, those stats need to go up. and the drop off in FG% is significant IMO.
my experience watching him play all those years backs it up and Dream backs up what I said too. you can't prove he came through for this team yourself so you're points are invalid too by your logic. I get it, you're a "I don't believe it unless I see it" type person, and there's little reason to continue this discussion, we're going to disagree on Robinson and his contributions and the validity of him being worth of a top ten pick.
You did not address how Robinson himself choked. Cummings was only all-star caliber with SA for three years, when the Spurs were still clear underdogs in the series mentioned. Yeah you see, when someone breaks their foot and is outside their prime, that usually happens. I didn't draft a 34 year old Robinson.
Well it is nothing against you though, let me clarify that again. :] My experience watching other people falsely accuse players of choking, tells me you're probably wrong.
you'd have to watch the series to get that one....... you don't have to be a season ticket holder to know what a guy does in the post season................I can't recall Robinson ever having a significant "moment" in the post season during his prime...........
Ah of course, Rodman was cool for 2 seasons, need to give him another shout-out. He was on the cusp for a couple of years, I wouldn't call him one though.
Sean Elliot was a damn good player. Maybe not an All-Star, but he was a guy lots of teams would have liked on their teams.
Personally David Robinson was one of my favorite players growing up, (the others Rodman and Elliot). To be honest, DRob did kind of let his team down in the playoffs even if just a little bit. Dream seemed to be able to have DRob's number in the playoffs. He still was a damn good player, and I agree if he had some of the supporting cast Dream had, DRob probably would have done better in the playoffs.
So you saw him play around 93-96? In 93-94 I felt he got little help from his cast offensively against the Jazz (4 games can't define a player either way though), the other two years he was pretty solid in the playoffs.
I did repeatedly mention it, the Spurs never advanced far in the playoffs save for one year with him as their best player. That failure always falls on the star player, especially when your team averages 55 wins per season. Losing to a team with 2-4 more wins is not an excuse. Losing to a team with 10+ more wins shows a more significant difference in the quality of the 2 teams. no you did not, but you did point out that Robinson's numbers dropped after his injury, which is true. I was mearly pointing out that his career averages for the regular season and the playoffs have a measurable difference and that includes before and after the injury. a top ten all time player should be one who's number rose in the playoffs and lead his team to Finals appearances at the very least. David Robinson is a great player, but not one I'd want as my first choice to build an all-era team because he's you can't count on him in the crunch (no stats, experience watching him.)
no worries, nothing personal taken, we have 2 different views on measuring players. You have a point, but there is usually a Bias in such assessments. I have nothing against the Spurs or Robinson. If he had been a Laker, the yeah, don't listen to me, I HATE the Lakers the fact of the matter is there are big time players who choked in big games. It's what makes them all-stars or greats of the game, but not Legends. In the first round of this draft, I wanted a Legend and got one. You got a great player. that's my opinion, you're is different and we disagree. I think this discussion should be done. on to the 2nd round picks
