A team would be ridiculously stupid to trade anything of value for Marbury. Unless if it was to get salary off the books and they immediately cut him.
Allen Iverson and Vince Carter come to mind. The Nuggets don't seem to want/need Iverson and the Nets definitely don't need Carter in their rebuilding process. If a team that was elite the last few seasons gets off to a surprisingly bad start (maybe the Pistons or the Spurs? unlikely though), there's always potential for a big trade.
I don't see Iverson being worth much in trade right now either. Maybe an unproven young player who isn't 1st or 2nd tier. People know his body has taken a beating. I could see VC being traded, the only question is, how high is the price tag?
Iverson could be the player a near-championship contender needs to get to the top (like Boston with KG last season). He may not be as good as he used to but there's no doubting the fact that he can still contribute at a pretty high level for a year or two. I think the Nuggets could get a talented young player or some picks at LEAST in a trade. VC could fit in well in the same situation as Iverson (contending team). He isn't built to lead and motivate a team of young guys. The Nets won't let him go for cheap, though, IMO.
You answered your own question. The only reason a team would pick up Marbury would be to rent him for a while, a la Gary Payton to Milwakee.
I never said a team should rent him. Him playing for a team is worse than him being far away from a team. His only value is as an expiring contract. Then you cut him when you obtain that ala Steve Francis to Portland.
I agree and think that AI is most likely to be traded. But where does everyone keep getting that he's not as good as he used to be? He had a 45 point 15 assist game last season against pheonix, a 50 point game against the lakers, and overall had the best statistical season of his career.
I never said he's not as good as he used to be, I'm saying he is not going to hold up much longer because of the beating his body has taken. He is getting pretty old too.
I would venture to say Odom is a possibility. I really don't like his attitude at this point and I'm thinking if he's not producing or showing consistency the way the Lakers FO wants him to, he could be good trade bait with his $12mil expiring contract.
