    Offensively - Amare
    Defensively - Tim Duncan

I know Dirk's stock is low right now, but I think he is the best offensive big man.

Defensively I think its Garnett, and Overall it's Duncan.

I would go with Duncan or KG overall. They're both good offensive players and they're terrific defensive players. After them, I'd take Yao or Amare.

Dwight Howard is the best pure big man in the league since Shaq.

You think Howard is better than Garnett or Duncan? If so, I'd like to hear why.

My problem with Sheed is his inability to be the "guy." Garnett also has this problem, but Sheed could have been as good as Duncan or even better, he just doesn't care.

Pure is back to the basket post game, mostly scores 5' from the basket, big rebounder, shot blocker.

Howard's combined stats (points, rebounds, blocks) were the best in the NBA since Moses Malone.

How are you combining those stats? If you're just adding them up per game, Howard got 37.0 last season. For his career, Duncan has eclipsed that mark in 4 different seasons. As for Shaq, he's averaged 39.1 and he got more than 37.0 in the first 11 seasons of his career. Olajuwon also got more than 37.0 11 different times over his career.

I'll agree with a poster above. Amare is the best offensive big man, but overall I'd still give the nod to Tim Duncan.

The last player to average 20/15/2 was Malone. Howard averaged 20/14/2.

And Garnett averaged 24.2 pts, 13.9 reb, and 2.2 blocks in his MVP year.

This sounds about right to me.

As for the Howard debate, based on the limited criteria that Denny presents, I'd have to agree. However, with the numbers of guards and small forwards playing a lot in the post and the new emphasis on outside play among big men make Denny's suggestion very limited. There's a lot more to being a big man than there has been.

    Elite company.

20/15/2 is the mark, not 24/14/2, not 25/13/4.

Asked was "today" - not in Garnett's best seasons (they seem behind him).

But Dwight hasn't hit that mark either. Or are you saying that you think he's the most likely to average those numbers, since Moses?

BTW, here's the list of players who've averaged at least 18 ppg, 13.5 rpg, and 1.8 bpg since the 1979 season:

    Code:
Rk Player Season Age Tm G MP TRB BLK PTS
    1 Moses Malone 1982-83 27 PHI 78 37.5 15.3 2.0 24.5
    2 Moses Malone 1980-81 25 HOU 80 40.6 14.8 1.9 27.8
    3 Dwight Howard 2007-08 22 ORL 82 37.7 14.2 2.1 20.7
    4 Hakeem Olajuwon 1989-90 27 HOU 82 38.1 14.0 4.6 24.3
    5 Shaquille ONeal 1992-93 20 ORL 81 37.9 13.9 3.5 23.4
    6 Kevin Garnett 2003-04 27 MIN 82 39.4 13.9 2.2 24.2
    7 Hakeem Olajuwon 1990-91 28 HOU 56 36.8 13.8 3.9 21.2
    8 Shaquille ONeal 1999-00 27 LAL 79 40.0 13.6 3.0 29.7
    9 Hakeem Olajuwon 1988-89 26 HOU 82 36.9 13.5 3.4 24.8

your right, but I'd take 2 more blocks and 5 more ppg than 2 more rebounds per game.
