....THE most exciting pro football game I've ever seen live! I mean, the hapless Falcons kicking the winning FG with 1 second to go........right after the Bears had just scored a touchdown and and gone ahead (seemingly for the win) with, get this, 11 seconds left in the game! Are you kidding me?!!! Electric, and I mean ELECTRIC Georgia Dome (playoff -type) atmosphere!! Holy Crapola....4-2, tied for 1st in the NFC South, with a bye next week. I'd be willing to bet the coaches give the players a bonus day off after this big win. (No doubt, the Eagles will have something to say in Philly in two weeks.) BTW, Matt Ryan for ROY, anyone?
I was watching the game. What an incredible ending. I wouldn't consider the Falcons as pathetic as they were last season. They've really done a good job of jumpstarting the rebuilding over a single offseason. Matt Ryan looks great.
Matt Ryan was an excellent pick by them. I've always liked the Falcons. I hope they have a good year.
Ugh. As a Bears fan, that absolutely killed me. Some real home field timekeeping on that pass from Ryan to set up the winning field goal play. 7 step drop, pressure right up the gut of the pocket, 40 yard prayer off his back foot, receiver gets his feet in bounds and then goes out of bounds ... all in 5 seconds. Riiiiiiight. Should have never come to that, though. Bears played horribly, so they deserved to lose. Just sucks as a fan when it's ripped from the jaws of victory. -Pop
Perhaps you're right on the timekeeper thing. Not sure. WHY did the Bears kick a squib kick on the kickoff, though?!!? All they had to do was kick it deep and let the clock run out. There would have been very, very little chance that Atlanta would have run it back for a TD. Bonehead move on whoever made that call. I'm just glad that Elam got a reprieve.
I agree, but I think they were a little rattled from the previous kickoff when Atlanta returned it to about the 20 (that was the return that preceded the Elam chip shot that he missed), so they were trying to minimize damage with 11 seconds left. Normally that decision doesn't come back to bite you, but my guess is that they would kick it deep if they could do it again. Matt Ryan impressed me quite a bit. I think the Bears were hurt by not having their two starting corners for most of the game but it was a hell of a performance for a rookie going against that front seven. I'd love to see the Bears meet up with the Falcons down the road in the playoffs this year. -Pop
As a Packer's fan, your Falcons have my thanks ABM ... I was at the Packers game in Seattle, so I didn't catch the highlights until the next morning when those 6 beers and 8 shots of Jameson wore off -- good times. P.S. Ryan looks like the real deal, and I'm glad for you Falcons fans that you seem to have something to cheer for after all of the shit you guys had to put up with the last couple of years.
Got a text from a friend (who is a bears fan) asking if I was watching the game. I guess it was after the Bears late TD... when I called him I didn't get an answer and still have not heard from him. I'm guessing because it was after the Elam FG. Being a Broncos fan I have see that leg win many games... nice to see him continue that even with another team.
I watched that game at the bar with my friends (at 7:00 in the morning, but it was right after work for us). I lost $10 bucks on that game, but it was a great ending.
I'm a 'Skins fan. At least you lost on the last play to a decent team... P.S. Let me know the next time you're visiting your family here in the Mile High and we'll catch a Blazer game at a sports bar.
