Has this been confirmed or just assumed?

I got it from someone I trust (who has a source).

Take it for what its worth.

But he told me Roy would be a Cowboy.... back in the offseason. He was right. He told me throughout the training camp and during the season talks were ongoing. He was right.

I have no reason to doubt him.

Wow, awesome. He's already agreed to a five year deal with us. That works for me.

Now he just has to be the Roy Williams from back a couple years ago, instead of the one we've seen this year. I think the change in scenery alone will help him, as will playing on a team that actually wins ball games.

FWIW, Roy has 3 drops on the year.

Meaning, he's been targeted a bunch.... but not dropping a bunch. Meaning, the throws must be pretty poor.

Well, if you look at who was throwing the ball to him most of the time, it's understandable. Jon Kitna is pure trash. He's had some solid years, but he's not going to start a good majority of the teams in the NFL and he has just been downright awful this year.

Initially I thought, 1st, 3rd, and 6th for Roy Williams??? Over paying to the max...

But looking at Dallas's situation, they're competing for a championship, and this moves means they're going for it all this year. Owens and Williams will make a great 1-2 punch at wide receiver, add that with Romo at QB, and Barber and Jones at RB, the Cowboys have drastically improved their offense.

At face value, this was overpaying, because Williams has not been that impressive this season, and even if he was, a 1st, 3rd, and 6th is A LOT to ask for (Eagles got TO for a 6th rounder I believe, Moss got traded for a 4th), but in this case, it was the right move for Dallas.

Also, a great move for the Lions. They'll get a lot of extra picks to use in the upcoming draft to help rebuild their franchise.

    Win-win for both.

Btw, I wanted the Eagles to get Roy Williams as well, but not at this price...

Another reason why I'm not concerned about trading the draft picks is because we have a TON as it is, so they were somewhat dispensable.

This, as Lost One points out, does put us at the forefront of a title picture as well. Granted we'll need Romo healthy before we can see what this does completely, it's going to be a great help NOW, which is what we want, and something draft picks can't always guarantee.

How can you afford to extend so many players, Vintage? I don't know much about your cap situation but it seems like Dallas has spent big on a bunch of players this year.

I don't think another WR, even of Williams caliber, puts you at the forefront of a title picture. Your defense really needs to step it up for that to happen.

Romo agreed to have his salary this year "guaranteed." That freed up some 6M in cap space.

We've also had low 1st round draft picks (which are cheap) for some time now.

We have a bunch of money coming off the books with Fasano, Ayodele, Ferguson.

Additionally, we lowered Owens cap hit this year with his extension. Barber's cap hit is like 3.5M this year and next year (which, for his production, is a bargain).

Henry could easily be cut next offseason (which would open up a lot of cap space). Roy Williams (the safety) could be cut, if we wanted too.

Colombo, Burnett, Hurd (small salary), Curtis (approx 1M), Canty (2.0M+), are all free agents. And if Ellis doesn't do anything, he could be getting close to the chopping block too. We are in pretty good financial situation, actually.

Last year, the season started out similar. Defense stuggling; offense scoring.... and by the end of the season, the roles reversed.

Similar start. Only difference is, the offense isn't clicking as well as it was last year (debatable) and the injuries.

Do you think Williams puts you guys over the top, though? I mean, being a Charger fan, I really don't know the impact of a big play receiver like Roy Williams. Granted Chris Chambers is good, he isn't TO/Roy Williams good. I'm used to a team being good from defense and RB play. Is Williams enough to put you guys as favorites to win it all?

Roy Williams puts us over the top, but goddamn it we were "over the top" before we traded for him. Look how that turned out: you can have all the talent on paper in the world, but if it's not used correctly, or if they fight their bodyguards, or if they go to Mexico (joking), it's just about worthless.

It should be interesting for the next 4-5 weeks though. Two deep threats and a QB that can't throw the ball more than 15 yards.

I'm not sure it puts us over the top (and how do we define that, really).

What I do know... is it opens the offense up. With Crayton in the lineup, teams simply played him 1v1, doubled Owens, and took away our deep passing game.

Roy is going to change that. He can beat one on one coverage deep. Crayton can't (or at least, consistently). Roy can draw coverages on his own. Crayton can't. Austin can't. Austin has the potential too, though.
