this brings me to question are we judging these players based on how they played in the prime of their careers???? If so Sabonis should've been picked a looooooooooong time ago, lol..........
I did want Sabonis, but he wasn't on the list agoo101284 PMed me and I was instructed to fill out the second unit before taking extra players in the 11th and 12th rounds. The last position on the second unit was PG, Billups was the top PG left on the list, so I was planning on taking him anyway. Great pick though.
That's true, but it's hard to judge how good foreign players were. It's not like now when the competition in other leagues around the world is not so far away from the NBA that you can't tell who would succeed here. Back when Sabonis was in his prime he was playing against very questionable opposition. I think in this case we just have to go with the past-his-prime Sabonis - who was still a terrific player.
I believe we are picking players based on their NBA merits. So Sabonis went right around the right spot for him. He was definitely past his prime when he came to the NBA.
I think the criteria will be different person to person. me I look at what they did when they played. Were they one of the best players in their era, one of the best at their posistion, did they sacrifice numbers for the good of the team and win championships (McHale), what numbers did they put up (average and total) and of course does the team assembled have Chemistry or is it a jumble of the best players and hope they work things out. I'm not going to sit here and argue that player Y who played in 1962 couldn't keep up with players of today's era.. it's obvious and absurd to argue that.
I updated the rosters as of the Sabonis pick. If there are any changes to be made... tell DW.. it's his freaking draft
with the numerous amount of pgs on the board I had to pick up bob...................in close games he's an option you want on the floor...........throw stats out the window..........the guy knows how to win and was even a pretty good defender in his younger days...............
yeah but he always annoyed me.. it felt like he could have done more with his talent in the 90's but coasted a lot.
^^^yeah I remember a time when rockets fans thought he would be another scottie pippen............he never really perfected his game in order to be an all star talent, but if the game is close I want him on my team......he's always been a pretty smart player and his defense was actually pretty good in his younger days. I'll never forget the job he had to take up in '95 when he had to go up against Malone,Barkley, Rodman, and Horace Grant in the playoffs, because the rockets didn't have a true PF after trading Thorpe and with Herrera being injured.......
I like what he's done in the past year or so and been watching him play in preseason and he looks real good. I will pick up another big, but make no mistake about it, Bynum is the real deal.
My list of players is at home, and I'm at my gf's house, won't be home til my pick is skipped so I went with two players that I know were on my list somewhere....plus I needed a SF. I have an eerie feeling that I will regret these picks lol
kukoc and mark jackson and eaton were all good late round pickups......to be honest Mark Jackson maybe should've went earlier..........dude could run the point just about as good as anyone not named Magic Oscar or Stockton......also had a slept on post up game...........and a decent 3 point shooter............kukoc was on my short list, but I figured I'd go with Horry because of his defense and clutch ability.......but still Kukoc was one of the greatest 6th men of the modern era...........
i went with D. Harper, because I feel like Dumars, Bowen, Harper, and X Man will give me plenty of tough physical in your face perimeter D...........and with the exception of Bowen they can also create their own shots..............here's a neat harper stat from nba.com http://www.nba.com/playerfile/derek_harper/bio.html edit many people forgot about aguire also.............was on my short list.......
I had other PG's on my list I'd rather have than Harper... then again I hated that entire era in the 90's of no talent/rugby/basketball and Harper was in the middle of it on the Knicks. Still i can't disagree that he's a solid PG and a very good defender.
I didn't care for him either when I was growing up to be honest, lol. He absolutely abused Kenny Smith in '94...I mean he beat his ass. Many people forget, but Derek Harper was the Knicks best player in that series............not Patrick Ewing. It was either him or another man who I hated dearly......................very dearly................very very dearly...........even if he falls to the next round I still won't pick him up, because my extreme hatred for the man as a basketball player...............
Andrew Bynum is better than Ben Wallace. Sorry. Andrew isn't an offensive liability, isn't undersized, and CAN be a defensive presence. Big Ben at best was a top defensive big man. Aside from that, game over. Me and the other guys were talking and there are clearly better big man on the board left better than BOTH of those players.
