I play Warhammer 40K...they used to host Grand Tournaments for the best players across the nation...120 people playing, I was playing since I was 14 and did the tournament thing til I was 16....Never placed lower than 40th out of those 120, and never placed higher than 11th but the difference in points between first and 11th was the difference between my one loss if it had been a win...

    I'm a dork.

I placed 11th when I was 15 lol...the age limit was 16 due to them giving you a hotel room when you paid to enter the tournament, something about liability, but my dad talked them out of it, cause my brother, dad, and I all play and place within top 50.

I see what you are saying, but I gotta disagree with that one.

Nash, Ray Allen, Shaq and others all took paycuts either to fit in with the financial situation of teams that they were going to or to allow teams that they were with to bring in some "help". Role players shouldn't be the ones taking pay cuts, that doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Especially if Kobe does leave the NBA. Not be belittle international play, but an NBA championship is the king of all championships. I don't think that players want an international championship enough to take a paycut just to play alongside some guy who is clearly in their league for the cash regardless of what he brings to the team.

    Shaq settled for a paycut.

I think the situation is different for Nash & Allen, because they aren't playing for an owner willing to pay extra for a winner, and I'm sure the Lakers draw far more revenue because of their worldwide popularity and playing in a large media outlet.

Didn't Nash leave Dallas to make more money in Phoenix? He has yet to win a title or even reach the Finals so right now that looks like a good decision by Cuban at the time.

Did Ray Allen take a paycut? Deal is for 5 Years

He basically signed a max contract, but didn't get the extra 6th year Seattle could have offered. His salary jumped from $14M a year to $16M a year.

There's some interesting math in this article by Emplay on Kobe opting out.

I see no point in Kobe taking a paycut. The dude is in better shape than anyone in the league, and despite the mileage on his legs, could probably play at a high level throughout that contract. I see no reason to NOT give it to him. He's earned every last penny of it.

So sue me for being busy. Sheesh.

Give me a break, I work til midnight five nights a week and have school. Oh yea, forgot about the social life I have to attempt to have. Yea, me = busy as fuck...most days at least.

Plus, it's the preseason. When the regular season begins, I'll be in full swing here, especially when I actually get the chance to watch games.

If he opts out, he'll technically be taking a paycut during the first two years, but he'll make more money in the long run. I think that works out best for everyone. I wonder if the Lakers allow him a 'no trade clause' again.

I don't see why they wouldn't give him a NTC. I highly doubt that they'd trade him away as it is. And if they do, and they need to trade him, I'm betting Kobe would be mostly understanding and work with them to do what's best for the team instead of him.

I agree with you though. Signing him to this supposed deal does make the most sense. He gets more money in the long run and we save initially. Plus, we wrap him up long term, something that we should do anyways. As long as he's healthy throughout that contract, I see no reason why he can't be a 24/5/5 player the entire time. He's in fantastic shape and his body hasn't shown a lot of wear and tear despite how much he's played at a relatively young age.

Maybe it's a different kind of love...a tough love that is hardest to administer but the most meaningful?
