Yo, is it just me, or does Carl Landry remind ya'll of Shawn Kemp (minus the illegitimate kids and drug addictions)? Landry did better in his rookie year then Kemp...then again, Kemp didn't have the luxury of Playing with guys like Ming, McGrady and Scola. Rookie Stats: Landry Year 07-08 GP 42 MPG 16.9 FGP .616 RPG 4.9 PPG 8.1 BPG 0.2 Kemp Year 89-90 GP 81 MPG 13.8 FGP .479 RPG 4.3 PPG 6.5 BPG 0.9 I think Houston got lucky to end up with Scola (thank you San Antonio!!!) & Landry in last years draft.
Landry dunked A LOT last year. It was amazing how many double pump dunks he got. I haven't been seeing much of that, though, since he got back from injury last year and during this preseason. He's played very well for us in the preseason, but that same explosion doesn't seem to be there. He'll still be a very good offensive player, but he's got good touch on the floaters and mid-range jumper, but I don't expect too many Shawn Kemp style highlights in his future.
I really had no idea what kind of player Landry was. Now, I see; thanks for the video. I always actually figured him to be a scrub, because of the way he shot free-throws. I'm sorry, but it's just an eye-sore to watch. The rest of his game seems much better. Bomb hoop? I swear, some of the things yi says are just legendary.
No prob, b. This kid's got a bright ass future as a 6th Man. I don't see why he cant be a 12-5 guy off the bench. Mark my words, he's gonna be a Diet Dr pepper Shawn kemp, and I hope he stays in Houston for a loooooong time, him and Scola are the best Starter/Bench combo as far as the 4-Spot is concerned.
I think you got Chuck Hayes and Landry mixed up. Landry has a pretty orthodox manner of shooting free throws.
That's because there's nothing wrong with the way Landry shoots his free throws. As far as we know, Hayes is the only Rocket with the unorthodox free throw stroke. Damn Landry's a monster.
^^^dang...............gotta make sure to get these things right..........i can't be messin up the forum slogan........
You can't compare the rookie seasons of Kemp and Landry. Kemp came straight out of high school and, traditionally, highschool players that join the NBA start off very slow in their first 1-3 seasons. (See Jermaine O'neal, Kobe Bryant, and our very own T-Mac). You could make the case that T-Mac was playing behind VC and Kobe was playing behind Eddie Jones, which affected their stats, but the truth still remains thats high school players usually had slow starts in the nba with exception to those like Lebron and Garnett.
very good to have landry. w/ shane out he fills the void well. plus he devoloped a jumper that'll be do wonders for us. shouldnt start at the 4 tho. too short and scola is provin hes better than last season. but as good as kemp i dunno. not dominating like shawn.
